New 1601
Hi everyone,
Well I've gone from 1 to 3 watches in short order here. This is my latest a 1601 with original Rolex papers and original receipt. Purchased for $813 in 1976. Serviced by Rolex in 2004 and put in the safe ever since. I just sent the oval link out to Michael Young to have the stretch repaired. So for now it's on a lizard strap but hopefully over the next couple months the oval link comes back looking like new! Thanks for letting me share. |

That's awesome Not much beats a nice 1601 on a strap. I'd love to see some more pics. I just love the acrylic crystal and the pie pan dial

I love the 1601. I have one on SS with oyster bracelet and blue dial. They are beautiful in their simplicity.

Great watch. Please, let us know how Michael Young does with your bracelet. I'm about to send one to him, too.

Great photos
I've been wearing my 1601 every day for the last 2 weeks. It's a great vintage piece, very reliable and I hardly notice it on my wrist.

by the way - I've tried posting this in its own thread I started this morning, but for whatever reason it still hasn't appeared. Do posts generally take this long to be approved by mods?
Anyway, I've just purchased my first Rolex, a 1971 1601 DJ with White Face and original, folded, Jubilee S/S bracelet. I have a dilemma whether or not to switch the orginal bracelet to a late 1970s solid bracelet, free of charge from the watchmaker selling me my watch. I really need to let him know in the next day or so before he despatches it to me, so any advice gratefully received! I plan on wearing my watch most days and I'm led to believe the solid bracelet will be sturdier. Is this the case or not? The watch is currently all orginal - Acrylic glass, original dial, etc - and I'm sure it would probably be the "right" thing to do to keep it as such. But will a 41 year old folded bracelet be up to the task of almost daily wear I'll be demanding of it?? |
