New to Forum - discount information

Hi everyone, I just became a member of this forum last week. I am also a member of TimeZone and discovered your forum as another place to meet others. I will be travelling to Minneapolis next month and would like to stop at one of the three AD's in the area. Is there Anyone one from this part of the country that could advise me on what to ask for a discount for a new AirKing from the dealer?

My guess is aim for 20% but probably get 10% ... No tax in both cases..
About the ADs.. No idea..
Good luck ..

Thanks for the advice, I'm not sure if I should ask for 20% right from the start? I was thinking of a min of at least 15% to buy the watch.

Not what you asked for at all but I thought I would make a dealer suggestion. Wixon is the place to go. I find they carry a much deeper inventory of Rolex and their sales people are fantastic. No ties with the place, in fact I've never even purchased there. Just nice people.

And why ever not try 25% its a buyers market just bargain see the best you can get. Then if not satisfactory walk away to the next and bargain them hard for a good discount until you are satisfied with the price and not the AD.

Thanks for the tips. In downtown Minneapolis, RF Moeller is right downtown and I was going to give them at try first. I am not sure about the consensus about discount, but thought about starting at 20%, but would need 15% off as my min. The other two AD's are located at Mall of America, for Osterman and Ben Bridge. I've been getting the impression that the AD's located in the Mall with regards to a discount, maybe hit and miss?

I know of RF Moelller in Downtown Minni, I am going to stop here first. And then proceed to Mall of America where Osterman and Ben Bridge is located, if need be. By the general consensus it appears that 20% seems to be the Max discount, although, I am unsure how to approach the discount when asking to see the watch. Any do's and dont's would be helpfull

You can visit and show interest, try to bond a little with the salesperson.Maybe talk price and say you will think about it. Then call a little later and say if you will make the sale at X price, I can be there within x amount of time. I have cash and credit card etc etc. Rolex MSRP is suggested pricing. Don't let them tell you they will lose their franchise if they get caught giving discounts.

the thing to do is just come out and ask, they get asked all the time so it will be strange if you don't,but don't ask straight away, take a look at the watches try it on then once the sales person knows you want to buy then talk about the discount, they are more inclined to tell you their price once they can see your about to buy, rather than just looking.

I think that what you see is a consensus of what to "ask" for, not what you can expect to get...

Different parts of the country seem to be quite different with any discounts.. Out west you will not get any discount on a SS Air King, but you might avoid taxes if you have it shipped home.. You could possibly get a 10 to 15% discount on a Two Tone or Gold model....

So, If they laugh at you and you decide to walk out on them, remember, you may need to walk out on all of them, so be nice in case you want to go back........

Best advice so far!! Pretty frequently people will quote discounts that they got from ADs that they've been dealing with for years, and have spent many Ks of dollars at. The whole bottom dollar thing is great, but if the watch you want is worth the money to you, buy it, whether it's new or pre-owned.

Sounds like a plan, thanks for the tips. I will make an offer and see what happens with regards to the price. There are 4 AD's in the Minneapolis area, I'm sure that one of them should come close to an agreed price. Its cetainly worth the effort to have a look around and just meet people and see how things go.
