Behold my vintage desk-blotter!
The pen-subforum of the Rolex Forum gets a lot of new and fancy pens being shown off every day, but it doesn't always get nice fancy desk-accessories being shown off. And certainly not any of a vintage variety. I purchased this today, from the local thrift-shop for $10:
![]() If you've ever bought blotting-paper and wondered why it comes in such huge, whomping great sheets, this is why: ![]() This desktop accessory was once very common on writing-desks. It's called a desk-blotter, and it was for these smart, leather-bound pads, that blotting-paper was made in such phenomenally large sizes. Not many people have desk-blotters anymore, but if you write with a dip pen and fountain pen frequently, like I do, they're indispensable. I've been after one of these for a long time, and I finally have one! Desk-blotters were useful because they prevented you from damaging your precious desktop, and they provided a large, ready supply of blotting-paper. The blotting-paper also caught any stray drips of ink, white-out, food-stains or anything else that might sully the top of your desk. This blotter will need a bit of repairing and TLC before I can use it. The two lower tabs on the blotter will have to be repaired, and the cloth inserts on the sides will be cut out and replaced with green felt. |

That's nice. I remember those from when I was a kid. My dad had an old desk for years that had one of those.
