New to Rolex and this forum! My first Rolex!

Hello everyone! I am humbled by your knowledge and expertise and I apologize ahead of time if I am posting in the wrong place. I just purchased a 2008 DJ with aftermarket MOP dial. It came with papers and the original factory silver stick dial. I am worried because I read you can see the crown etching under the "6" with a magnifier and I can't! This is a 36mm and I am a lady that likes big watches! My only dealer here said they do not authenticate and won't even look at it! They send all their watches to Dallas. Anyway, here are some pictures, does it look good? I am so excited about owning my 1st Rolex! TIA!

Welcome to the Forum!

A very nice watch. For having an Aftermarket dial, Rolex will not service it but other watchmakers will.

Thanks! Right, that's the downfall. Does the rest look good? Should I be able to see the crown etching at the "6" with a magnifier?

It's going to be very difficult to see the crown etched in the crystal unless you tilt the watch so the dial is not behind the field of view. Also try to have a friend with better eyes look for it for you. It's very difficult even with me with perfect vision, and nearly impossible with the naked eye against a light colored dial background. As for your watch I think it looks beautiful enjoy it!

Did you buy the watch with papers? If so, match the numbers to the serial on the rehaut.

It is also possible the crystal was replaced when the dial was installed. ?!

..Lovely DJ there.. Congrats...
I believe I read that if you take an LED flashlight and shine it on an angle, fairly flat angle, it will appear...with the aid of a magnifier/8x lupe.
..and based on your pic..I would say its authentic..with the rehaut engraving and I can just about make out your serial # @ the 6 .

Thanks everyone! You are all so helpful and I appreciate it so very much. I was getting anxious and now I feel much better. I posted this two times and I am appreciate your understanding. This is the most $ I have ever spent on a watch and I want it to last a lifetime and pass on to further generations.

Steven, thanks for the great picture, that is SO helpful!

TimeToGo, yes I did and I'm going to go look now! Thanks!

Jatco, thanks for putting up with both my posts and answering me in both places!

Congratulations on the new watch....

I wouldn't worry about the etching... some folks look for years before they find it......

Tools, thanks! That makes me feel better! I have rather old eyes and even with a magnifier and flashlight I couldn't make it out!

Hey guys and gals,

New here as well just wanted to say that when I had my Air King polished they removed the crystal to polish the bezel and replaced the crystal the etching was now at the 10 o'clock position. You may want to look around the crystal to find the etching seeing as your dial was changed. Enjoy your new timepiece it is very nice.

The engraving at a different position only works with non cyclops watches so if it is there and it is a genuine crystal it must be at 6:00. Who knows with aftermarket though?

Congrats.

Perhaps you may consider restoring the watch to "stock" some day. You may like the original dial and you can get service at a RSC :-)

You guys are the best!!! Thanks so much!
I did wonder if I ever replaced the dial with the factory dial if Rolex would service it, I guess they will! Good to know!

That is a great looking watch, were you able to verify if the serial number on the rehaut matches the numbers on the papers or chronometer attestation card?

Not yet, company here but I plan on doing it first thing tomorrow morning. Thanks for the tip, that will make me feel even better if they match!

Thanks Vukotab!
