How safe is it to buy Rolex on this Site??

Hi, I am new to Rolex forum. I did not mean to be disrespectful. there are a few sellers on advertised on this site. I would like to know how safe is it for the buyer and seller.? How do we follow thru the transaction?

I have never bought anything this expensive online, or wire money unsecured. If anyone of you already had successful transaction already, please share your experience.

if you have a seller that is reputable that you like to recommend, send him or her my way,

I will be the first of many to recommend DavidSW...

Bought and traded several with him...

The first time it's a little nerve-racking... But after that you will be more comfortable...

There are many reputable sellers here. One thing I learned as a rookie this year on TRF, "Buy the seller." You will hear that again I'm sure.

Check the For sale section==then check out the buyer in the feedback forum. There are many great sellers like Justrolexes, Mosco, DavidSW, Bodybump--some of the best I know!! So the long answer to your question-Yes-as long as you do your homework and buy the seller--which I just pointed out 4 great ones to you!!!! Happy hunting!!

Justrolexes, Mosco, DavidSW, Bodybump are beyond trustworthy guys. They can walk you through the purchase if your interested.

Make sure you read the TRF rules for the for sale section.

You should always do your own research and verify everything before buying any product.

TRF is not a sales site and any sales are individual members. Any purchase is strictly between the buyer and seller.

Read this latest thread:

http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=153990

TRF does have a Buyers/Sellers Board where any potential buyer can research some transactions and member sellers..........

I just purchased my first watch through TRF which will be here tomorrow... here was my thought process:

1. Does the watch have clear pictures, description, is listed at a fair price and come with papers? OK - it passes the initial "smell" test.

2. Can the seller prove they own the watch? I asked the seller to e-mail me a photo with the time set to a random time. They immediately did. OK - they have the watch.

3. Do they have references? Either on TRF, eBay, or somewhere else. Be sure to make sure that they are who they say they are. Meaning, if they say - yeah, check eBay, I'm "watchseller" over there - you need to check and really make sure they are "watchseller". OK - they've done transactions before with good results.

4. Do they seem reasonable? Do they offer a return if the item is not as described? Do they clearly communicate in a timely fashion? Will they talk with you on the phone? Can they ship immediately?

If any of those are a NO - walk away!

The ones that are frauds (and YES they are out there) usually offer an unbelieveable price, provide limited information, don't have paperwork, don't have the watch in their possession "for some reason", don't have references, must receive your payment immediately due to an emergency (I actually got this just a few weeks ago on another forum when I inquired about a watch - "I MUST have payment within the next 24 hours to pay for a wedding" - yeah, right!), etc...

Good luck with your search! Hope you find what you want!

DavidSW is the best in my book. You can't go wrong with him.

We have completed several deals and working on another. I am very indecisive going to try them all.

The forum should hire someone to inspect pictures of what is for sale. I have seen a few watches offered without papers that I question.

This is a private forum that is not a commercial activity.

We can all be vigilant and inspect pics and alert the Moderators/Admin who also do this for a hobby.

If you have seen something you don't like the look of then I hope you reported it.

It is up to the potential buyer to ensure they are satisfied - It is NOT the job of this forum or any of it's admin... although they do their best and pretty impressive job at that.

As for buying on this site - I have made several deals/trades with DavidSW...and can vouch that each one was flawless.

The forum does not allow people to reply to sales ad's. It is impossible to share information on any watch or question it in public.

If you buy from one of the trusted & known sellers on this forum you shouldn't have any worrys. Always buy the seller first and if the deal seems too good to be true it is. I have bought several watches from these trusted sellers with no problems & it was the 1st few times I actually wire someone such a large sum of money. I wouldn't hesitate to do business with them again.

Have you considered going to an AD for your purchase?

You can report anything in the sales section you think is suspect...and the mods will take a look. Just hit the report button.

Further, you can PM the seller and ask all the questions you want - if you're not satisfied don't buy...simple.

If you are suspicious in any way you can post any info YOU have to alert others to it...this was just done in reference to a GMT2C and that was promptly removed.

To be honest...there are sellers here with fantastic reputations...and others that have none. I know where I'd always go.

Ebay relies strictly on members to report listings and only investigates in order of reports...This list can be so long at times that the listing completes before it's even reviewed!
Not to mention, there is now sure way of authenticating a watch through pictures alone....
We are not a commercial forum and rely strictly on other members and staff....

Without a doubt research the seller. There are many reputable sellers here on the forum. You may find someone who has done only a couple of transactions don't rule him out. Check his references. That's how I bought my datejust. I checked the guy out with one of the big sellers here who he had done business with & he vouched for him which was good enough for me. I bought a beautiful watch at a great price with all boxes & papers...

hacampbell1360.....As has been so clearly said here, there is an excellent system set up here to alert the Moderators should you feel there is an issue with a listing. It works! I know because I reported that GMT IIc and it was looked into and then when found to be a scam, immediately removed, lightening fast, literally within minutes of my reporting it!! That's IMPRESSIVE!!

Having only been here a relatively short time, by participating, as well as looking at the sales that have and continue to be posted, I came to clearly see who was who, as I am sure any newcomer will be able to do, by putting a little effort in.

I believe that by using our basic common sense, transactions on TRF can be extremely safe, probably safer than eBay, and one heck of a lot more enjoyable!!!

(Talk about the right question at the right time!)

......just do your due diligence!

I would strongly caution you against buying anything here...

I re-discovered the site a few months ago and 5 watches and about 50k later I am trying to seek help for my new obsession. It just never ends - one leads to another..hell I just bought 2 watches I didn't even want becaus they were great deals.

The sellers mentioned above are great - do your research - old posts etc...

Absolutely the best place to buy a rolex anywhere!
