Well, I did it, flipped my GMT !
Well, can't believe I did it, but ended up flipping my GMT II at an AD today. ONly had the GMTII for a little over a month. Well, saw a Datejust that I just had to have. The AD actually gave me a good deal on the trade in. Was suprised. Even though only had the GMT II for over a month, had some scratches on the braclet, some scratches on the lugs back side where I took the bracelet on and off, hologram sticker is removed. Had taken the GMT swimming many times, lifted weights several times with it and wore it travelling all over Bangkok.
But, I really liked the Datejust and the size it was. Traded the GMT for the Datejust Model, BNIB Z series 116200. Black Dial, rectagular luminous hour markers, new style oyster bracelet and clasp, new beefier DJ case, smooth SS bezel, alternating red and black date nmbers. With trade in and based on exchange rate, cost me about $550 US for the trade in to the DJ. NOt bad since in the US the DJ are about only $150 cheaper than the GMTs. Anyway, I like the fit and finish of the new DJ, the smoothed out rounded case. The traditional look. The GMT II was a great watch, but since I have the Explorer II as well, that is getting a lot of wrist time, did not really need an additional GMT type watch. Anyway, afterwards went over to the Pennisula restuarant and had a couple glasses of Red wine to celebrate the new Rolex Purchase, and while sipping the wine picked up a copy of the Pennisula magazine to read -and there on the back page was a Rolex ad for a datejust! Good day overall. Well, did look at cameras today and found the one I want (Olympous 775). Will buy tomorrow and then will jam up this site with photos. |

My first thought was WHY, WHY, WHY? But after hearing you own an Explorer II it makes sense. The Ex II and DJ will cover any situation.
Congrats and let's see those pics. dP

Insufficient. You need to exceed 25,000 posts and repeatedly post the same picture of a TT Blue Sub. Some adventure stories about your Rolexes fighting each other for the affection of a lady Yachmaster would help a great deal as well.

Congrats, Chad....I do believe that DJ is a very nice looking watch. Much prefer the smooth polished SS look as compared with the fluted WG one.
Flood this forum with pics as soon as you grab that camera!!

Thanks JJ. Yes, the smooth bezel is very nice. THe rounded edges on the lugs as well, make the watch melt into your wrist. COmbined with the new bracelet, very comfortable to wear. Very traditional looking. Think it will be a fitting watch to take on my jouney to Yangoon next month. Old colonial style city, colonial style hotel, Burma, and a classic Datejust. Really liked the Exp 1 I had, but missed having a date feature. THis DJ is kind of like an Exp 1 but with a Date. And historically, it was initially DJ or their equivilent that actually went to many of the first Himalayan expeditions. Another thing I like is the new beefier case, almost gives the case a square appearance, similiar to the old photos you see of vintage Rolex watches from the 1940s. |
