Well, since you already have a Sub Date, I would get something a little different. A Explorer II with a fixed bezel and ability to tell time in 2 different zones? A GMT, with a two tone colored dial to spruce things up a bit and again can tell time in 2 different zones. Or how about a Datejust or Explorer I, for when a little more dressy watch is needed, or a bit smaller and more comfortable fit on the wrist and both very traditional looking?
Personnally, I would get an Exp II black face or a Black or Silver faced Datejust to go with your Sub. |

That might be a tad boring at this phase. Wait for the SD as your third watch. Now enjoy that classic SUB and give yourself a beautiful DJ like the new TOG with white gold bezel and dark blue face. Delicious, and gives you variety and dimension.

If you already have the Sub-date, try something different....like a GMT-II or an Exp-II or even a nice SS DJ on Jubilee. Good luck - JJ

Sport or Dress?
Your choice will in part depend on what you intend to do with the watch. I have a SD, and in getting a second Rolex, I wanted to get something rugged and handsome in the sport line that I would wear at work, as well as getting something that was significantly different than the SD.
I went with a Pepsi GMT II, because the GMT II and the SD differ in a number of ways, including but not limited to: 1. They have different movements, 3135 (SD) vs the 3185 (GMT II); if I bought a Sub, I'd have 2 diving watches with the same movement. If I'm paying Rolex prices for a watch, I guess I want a more varied collection than 2 divers with the same movement; 2. The GMT has a Cyclope, the SD doesn't; 3. The (Pepsi) GMT has a multi-coloured bezel, the SD is straight black; 3. The GMT II is is slimmer and lighter and has a different wrist profile and presence than the SD. For me, if I get a third Rolex, I will choose something that is clearly different than what I already have. Ultimately, my opinion(s) is/are just that, opinions. In the end, you should take your time and choose the watch that really smiles at you, and you alone. Best of luck with your choice, you will never go wrong on any level with a SD; rugged, a proven commercial performer, absolutely beautiful and subtley compelling, able to wear with a suit (wet or dry), jeans or a tux. some on here have many versions of the same watch- but personally(and on my limited budget) i can only really justify 2/3 watches and they all preferably should be a bit different and fullfill different needs(dress[DJ], weekend[pam], work/basher[seiko black monster])

Funny, I'm hearing more and more that potential first-timer buyer's here are starting to seriously reconsider getting the SD as their first Rolex, or are having seconds thoughts that they should have bought it after they already purchased their GMT/Exp/Sub.
I'd think the TT Blue Sub falls into this category also. |

I'm one of those guys that has both and certainly there are differences in the two pieces with the SD being IMO the more utilitarian and closer to the "tool watch" heritage of the two. I would say if versatility is a concern in your decision a GMT or EXP (I or II) merits consideration. Essentially the GMT II and Exp II have the same movement as your sub, the difference being the addition of the 24 hr. complication. With the Sub and GMT you should be set for about anything you would need a watch for. |
