Sea Dweller 1665 Great White Crystal Question
I'm looking into getting my first vintage Sea Dweller and I am looking at the 1665 Great White. I absolutely love the domed plexi on them. I have noticed that some seem to have a dome shape and some have more squared edge.
Can someone explain this? Why are some domed and some not? What serial numbers should I be looking at in order to get the domed crystal. Thanks for any input. |

The 1665 should be using the Tropic 39 super dome crystal. The dome crystal that is slightly square along the edge before the dome is a service tropic 39 crystal that Rolex uses when the watch is serviced.

Ah...thanks for that Frogman4me.
Anyone one have any images of the Tropic 39 vs the service crystal? |

Thanks again Frogman4me!
That superdome is the reason I love the 1665 so much! |

A word of caution....IF you intend to wear the watch in water, I would recommend a SERVICE CRYSTAL........The Super Domes, because of age, have a tendency to form small cracks around the outer edge and leak....Just a heads up...Look forward to seeing your 1665.......Here's mine....

Thanks for that very sound advice to a newbie. I'm not sure I'd be diving/swimming with it but it would be definitely getting wet, as I live in Miami and the water is a part of life over here. Is that a service crystal on yours? |

If you plan to use your 1665 in/around water, go for the service crystal. |
