biggest improvement for the sub?
What do you think rolex's biggest improvement for the sub over the years?

It is hard to say one thing as there are so many attributes that go to make this watch what it is today. The movement, the maxi dial and hands, Oyster case and the triple lock crown.
Not to mention the new bracelet and clasp with micro on the fly adjustment.

It was when they put the HE valve on the side, attached a thicker crystal, took off the cyclops and called it the Sea Dweller.

Well since the introduction of the Cal 3135 in 1988 the biggest improvement IMHO was the SEL bracelet. Now we have a new type bracelet/clasp and ceramic insert, but only time will tell if they are a real improvement over the 16610.The maxi dial is not something new but myself prefer the maxi type dials like the vintage ones without the gold surrounds. The introduction of the luminover and super luminover dials were a improvement over the Tritium dials but dial lume is not all that important to myself. The movements since the 15XX series have a well proved track record for longevity of life and accuracy same could said for the 3XXX series. So IMHO most improvements over the years have been purely cosmetic and I would not class as real improvements. But one thing you can be sure of when buying a Rolex watch. That with a little care from yourself, it will last a lifetime and beyond, don't think anyone could improve on that.

For me the solid bracelet with the GlideLock clasp seem the best improvement Rolex could have possibly done to the Sub. Now if they could put that on the 14060M in 2011.........

I agree about the 14060M as I want to get another one of those and it would be GREAT if it had the new bracelet and clasp.

Over the years?
From a tool stand point the use of a unidirectional bezel and (though I prefer acryllic) the addition of a sapphire crystal. I know movements always get mentioned and the 3xxx fast beats are hard to argue with, but the 15xxs were real work horses. |

I don't think there has been any improvement over my 16610. I don't care for the maxi dial, and I have no problem with my bracelet. I recently had my bezel insert replaced, for £35. I'll stick with old school!

Like padi56 i prefer the maxi dial without the WG surrounds, i just think the dial looks better all round. As for the bracelet, the new one might be better but the old types are still going strong and were comfortable so as an improvement, not so sure.

It would be Glidelock for me - they've gone from having a functional, but basic clasp to having one of the best executed clasp concepts of just about anyone on the market today. It's a fantastic idea, I just wish they put it on more than just their divers

Bracelet: TT solid center links and clasp. Older bracelets don't compare and are lacking for such an expensive watch.....IMO. Ceramic is also an improvement.

I like the new bracelet. However, I tried on the new SUB and it just wasn't for me. The proportions don't appear correct. IMHO..
