1680 Red Question
I have a watch that was recently acquired by me from a family member. It is beautiful and I truly treasure it because I remember seeing it growing up and all of the years it was with my family member.
The watch was worn pretty much everyday and considering it's age is in AMAZING condition. The markers and hands have a VERY light cream patina to them, almost looking white in most types of indoor light. It is a closed six feet first dial, (I believe Mark Vl) and the hands look just completely superb! Most 1680 Red's I see on here it looks like the stainless on the hands is worn and or pitting, etc. Meanwhile, I love the watch and I'm so proud to own it. Here is my question- the bracelet it a 78360 (non- flip lock) with 580 end links... is this common? Seems like most of the posts I read on here, I never see that bracelet and end link combo? |

Let me be first to say congrats on a great watch. A picture would be a great addition to this thread.
As far as the bracelet is concerned a 1680 red should have a 9315 folded link bracelet with 280 or 380 endlinks. What you have is more commonly for a GMT or Explorer II but it does fit a 1680 red. Only difference in the bracelet is that your 7836 does not have a divers extension and flip lock. |

I will tell you that the watch was purchased for $300.00. At the time, my family member knew the person who was responsible for doing all of the print and advertising for Rolex.
This was a watch that was used to shoot a magazine ad for Rolex for 1 day and they told my family member they could get them the watch for half price because they did the ad work for Rolex. Weird, maybe they put that specific band on it for a reason? I do know the watch was received as brand new, in the box with papers, etc. as sent by Rolex to the Ad firm this person worked for. As expressed by Frogman, I always thought a 78360 was for an Explorer II. |
