Hi, I'm new What is my watch worth?

Is it just me, or in the last few years have we become subjected to dozens of one time newbies with the same theme, more or less:

"Hi. I have a watch. What is it worth?"

Haha Al, I saw the thread title and thought you were pulling a joke. Well since I joined and been here consistently, there's been a number of those one off threads...

I bet there's a bunch of regulars on the forum with 1000's of posts that started out in much the same fashion. It seems like a popular "beginner" type question, hopefully to be followed by years of participation.

I bought the same Rolex that was used by SEALS in Viet Nam. I was wondering...do you think it would be O.K. if I swim with it? I put tape on the edges so it doesn't get scratched. Oh and by the way...do you think it would hurt the watch if I sleep with it on?

And the most annoying question of them all.............do you wear your watch on the right hand or left hand??

And even more annoying is the number of guys who actually answer that stupid question.

Like at the end of the thread anyone's even going to remember whether Tom, Dick or Harry wears the watch around his left hand, right hand or even around his friggin' neck!!!

No, it's not just you, Al. No introductions, no nothing, just a demanding post. More than a little annoying.

Would agree Al afraid today with many especially with Rolex its all now £££$$$ and nothing else.Which IMHO is quite sad as in my day you bought the watch because you wanted too.And knowing that watch would last with a little care a life time.Today its mostly will this or that go up in value how much is this worth with X or Y movement will it be worth more etc, today its now mostly $$$$$£££££.

The noob questions can be annoying but I usually try to answer them as long as the author seems sincere. We all started out at some point with little to no knowledge and had to get the foundation for our information from somewhere. Answering such questions ensures a healthy and active TRF that will continue to grow.

Well you can agree with me or not but as every reason stated above is the reason why i don't post on this forum that often!

I know we all have a passion for rolex, that being said i had one question that i posted on the forum about a 118238 DD diamond clarity and my question was answered.

All the other conversations can fall by wayside because they really do not have any significance, just my 2 Cents.

Most are really not asking what it's worth, rather they are asking how obvious of a fake is this watch.

Wouldn't it be wonderful to be rich enough that I need a safe AND rich enough that I could own a Rolex that I forgot I had.

Now here's a good sport!

We all started somewhere (needless to say my beginning here wasn't the smoothest), but it's all about how we choose to continue.
