What are the essential accessory items for the modern man?

I'm trying to make up a list of what the essential items a fashionable well to do modern man would own. I need some suggestions to complete my list. These are items that in my mind are timeless and really should only be purchased once and last for a long time. Definitely a quality over quantity factor here.

1. A high end time piece.

2. A nice wallet.

3. A proper trench coat.

4. The perfect dress belt.

that's all i got so far any other suggestions?? What do you deem is an essential item that every man should own?

I have no use for a trench coat in fact I have not even worn a coat in over ten years. Everything else on the list is good.

Out here in the desert ...no need for a trench coat!
Im retired so I dont wear dress pants anymore....I wear shorts 355 days a year.

My wallet is whatever my wife buys me when she thinks the one i have looks bad.....I really dont care that much anymore.....who will see it anyway?
In the house I wear a Casio digital mostly and leave the Rolex and Omega's on a winder ....Im always hitting it against door knobs etc so why risk dinging my GMT.
I guess if you are a young guy that stuff may be important....trying to attract
the ladies
But when you get over 50 health in my biggest concern!

Hey, you look pretty cool already. I don't think you need anything else to add to your coolness. Leave that to other Canadians. Just find yourself a great business card and a nice lady.

Great list. I agree on the trench coat.Nothing looks worse than someone wearing a suit with the suit coat jacket sticking out from under a short winter coat. A couple of nice fedoras and dress shoes are also a must.

It sounds like you mean for work, so here's mine in level of percieved priority:
  • Blackberry
  • Tailored shirt
  • Tailored slacks/blazer or suit
  • Polished and leather soled dress shoes
  • Properly sized leather belt to match the shoes
  • Slim, front pocket wallet in matching leather
  • Fine watch
  • Fine pen
  • If needed, an appropriately colored trench coat, along with leather gloves to match, scarf and fedora.
  • Leather man-purse, whether it be a briefcase, portfolio, computer case, etc. (to keep the junk out of the jacket pockets)
  • Cufflinks to match the other metals, if needed
  • My other "man" jewelry. lol

I listed the tailored clothing because you can have the nicest accessories in the world and still look like a slouch with ill-fitting clothes.

Geez - no wonder I had to add the upper racks in the closet.

+1 for well made (hand made) shoes, Barkers, Church's, or something more exotic, these will last a huge amout of time, making them competive value.... but only is assisted by the next essential man accessory:

- Good quality Cedar shoe trees (a bit boring but essential!)

You are definitely right. Quality shoes are key. There is nothing worse than a cheap pair of shoes. Shoes complete every outfit.

Shoes and ties

Hereunder, some (about 70%) of my shoes

I have about a hundred Hermes ties, but now in storage somewhere (where?) as I do not wear ties anymore.
