Small Problem

Hello Friends,

I've recently flipped one of my watches and didn't realize that the warranty card was missing. After tearing my place apart, I can't find it. I purchased the watch about 6 months ago and believe it never came with a warranty card (hard for me to prove this now as so much time has passed), and I've contacted the originally seller, but to no avail. I have now sold the watch, but the new buyer has contacted me to state that the warranty card is missing. I believe him, but since the transaction is complete. What should I do? Can I or the new buyer obtain a new warranty card other than taking the watch in for service, which it doesn't need because the watch was purchased new in July 2010. Any advice would be helpful.

Did you list the warranty card as part of the sale?

Not good. Unless you can find it, it's gone forever; Rolex will NOT issue another warranty card, even if you put it in for service you will just get service papers. Maybe offer the buyer a few quid back?

I personally would value the papers to about 400-600 euro.

I think it really depends on wether he has a warranty issue or not. That will be the tricky part, because if he does have a problem who is going to pay the bill? The best thing you can do is ask the buyer what he wants to make the deal 'good' again.

Hope you come to a good compromise that works for you both

Tricky one, I think the decent thing to do is to is to offer the buyer a refund or ask him what he thinks would make it right and if he is reasonable and after a little negotiation I am sure this can be sorted amicably between you both and he will see that you are a decent chap who has made a genuine mistake .

I would agree. I would offer the buyer a complete refund and return of the watch... I doubt they will take you up on this as they wanted the watch originally. I would then ask what they feel fair and give it to them. My guess would be $4-750 USD for complete as opposed to incomplete especially since it was advertised as complete. Just my .02, good luck.

Accidents happen, but in the end it's you who screwed up. You should make it right to the buyer.

In my opinion, a VALID stamped warranty paper is worth at least 15% of the total price because of the potential need of warranty service and the future provenance of the watch. The papers are now incomplete. And the buyer will have a harder time selling it.

...or offer a full refund.

Ask the buyer what will make it right for him. And if you're not comfortable with the price. Offer a full refund.

That won't be to bad. I'm trying to make it right. I've left it in the buyers hands to decide what he wants to do. He's a good guy so I'm sure we'll work something out.

As others have said, I guess it's up to the buyer to feel how much would be good enough.

Hope everything works out well!

Agreed. Ask him what he thinks its worth and if you cant agree on the amount offer full refund. It's how you would want it handled if tables were turned.

I'd offer a full refund + shipping + apology, then re-list it correctly.

Depending on the model, it will probably sell for a few hundred bucks less than if it had the warranty card. After being bummed out for a few more days, you can chalk it up as a bad investment & move on.

Most warranty cards are essentially useless. If you got the watch new only a few months ago, it actually has real value, as it may need a warranty service. That card could be worth $1000 or more to the buyer. I would want a full refund in this case. If out of warranty, I'd probably be more than happy with a couple hundred dollars.
Good luck.

Well give yourself some credit too... your obviously a good guy as well for genuinely being concerned with this and wanting to get it sorted out. I hope it all works out well for you both and sorry to hear of your mishap.
