Hublot Black Magic Classic 45mm

Just realized that I've been away from this forum for a long time. Just to update, bought this Hublot watch last week. Picture attached:
photo2-1.jpg

With the black ceramic case and bazel, the watch is very light, which needed getting use to since my other daily wear is the YM plat. So far, the Hublot is keeping time to the exact second (for one week).

Cheers.

Looks nice. I have never even held a ceramic watch yet. Is the texture different than SS or PVD coated? Looks like it has a shine to it.

Hi all,
Thanks. The black ceramic is mirror gloss on the case and sides, but matte on the surface of the bazel. The gloss part looks and feel like a marble, but wears very light. Need getting used to, sometime like not wearing a watch. Does not have that heavy and solid feel on the wrist like a Rolex, but does feel solid to the touch.
I bought the watch for its black look, and does not attract that much attention like the platinum YM. It is a total opposite character to the Rolex. The Hublot brand also carries a different concept, modern materials fused with traditional timekeeping.

Also the ceramic material from what I gather, is a tough material, second to diamond, so not easily scratched. Though without treatment, can easily break (like a glass). But with technology and treatment, I believe it would stand a hard beating (Formula 1 brakes are ceramic).

It does not have a 'phantom' glow however, so in the dark, it disappears actually! there's no luminous material on the hands and dial too. However, the dial I have is a carbon fibre dial, so with light, it creates a 3D effect, the dials and markers tend to 'float' above the carbon fibre.

Cheers

I can just see from the picture the mirror finish and the matte finish look very nice together. I have heard a lot of great things about the use of ceramic on watches, and will have to take a closer look at some next time I see one.

I don't have any macro lens for closeup, but will try some cropped pics tomorrow.

Hey, this is one brand of a watch that you get an e-mail (forum posting) from the CEO of the company himself. And he will be sending me an extended warranty, hand written too, to my address. You may say that e-mail can be sent by another employee, so will update this forum when (or if) I receive it.

Looks great, I have been wanting a Big Bang for the longest time since I really really like it, but have been contaminated by many bad comments about the brand (ETA movements and such...).

How do you feel with your purchase? I bet the watch does look and feel substantial doesn't it? I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on one somewhere down the road.

I have been very pleased with the watch. The watch is quite light actually, so it does not feel that big. While it is a 45mm, its about the same size as the YM 40mm when on the wrist. But I have the classic model, which is slimmer than the more substantial Big Bang Chrono.

And it's totally black in case and strap color, so a totally different experience/feel than a Rolex, and the fusion and modern concept (materials for the case, dials) is a contrast to the more traditional designed watch. Its just an individual preference (or may I say the mood for the day).

As far as the movements, I am not very knowledgable in that area, but I believe that many other luxury brands have been using the ETA or Sellita based movements without any issue. Hublot used a modified ETA or Selitta based movements, and this year they will have their own Unico movement too. The movement in my Classic watch is the HUB1112, and so far, its +10 seconds over 10 days, impressive.

Cheers.

I cannot stop thinking about this watch. The look is amazing, and I have wanted an Hublot for years. This might finally be the one. I have a couple of small questions: The watch you picture lists for roughly 9K. I would pay that in a heartbeat if it had an in-house movement, but for an ETA it seems a bit steep. Were you able to get a worthwhile concession on price? I'm actually thinking of the slightly smaller 42mm version, since it lists at 1K cheaper, and I don't need the extra size. That one has the Sellita 300 movement, (clone of the ETA 2892), but I would actually prefer if it did not have the display back. It would 'bug' me less if I didn't have to look at a bog-stock utility movement, (I know it will work just fine). Do you, or does anyone, know if the 42mm Black Magic has a solid back? Thanks!

PS, I asked, and although the Unico chrono movement is in use this year, the Unico 3-hand movement won't be out for at least 3 years.

I am not sure whether you can get a concession on the price and what is a reasonable concession. Most dealer would be able to strike some kind of a discount.

My 45mm Black Magic (HUB1112 movement) does not have a display back, but a solid caseback. I believe the case back is also black ceramic (same shine and shade as the ceramic case). The imprint at the back says that the material is ceramic and titanium (could be just the H screws). The pdf I downloaded from the web (I could not read Japanese, so no idea what it said), on the 42mm have a display back (that one is the HUB1110 movement). From what I gather, both have a modified sellita movement. I attached the image below
Cheers.

Update: received that hand written note (with my name on it and the watch case Nr.) from the CEO J.C.Biver today. I am impressed at the way they managed the brand. .
