Service without restoration?
What watchmaker would you recommend for having a watch just serviced and not polished or repaired? I saw that Ridley gets high marks on this forum, but it looks like he specializes in restoration. I don't need the outside prettied up. The watch functions well, but it's probably time for a service.

It's true that Rolex charges the same price if you choose to not have the case refinished. But, they also replace many of the worn parts inside, as well as "expendibles", such as the Main wheels, pallet and stones, gaskets and O-rings, etc. They don't just clean it and oil it, which is usually what you get at the bargain price shops...

I do not know if you have "original papers" but if you service through the RSC, you will receive service papers that looks just as good to some collectors.

Bob Ridley does specialize in case and general Rolex restoration. However, he is VERY interested in personal care of his customers and will follow your instructions explicitly. I feel quite certain that he would service your watch without any case restoration whatsoever.

I assume ridley is a little cheaper than rolex. I'm not trying to get off super cheap, but I don't like paying for services I don't need. I have a saying; "I don't mind spending money, I don't like wasting money." I understand that it is quite a skill that requires time and expensive equipment. I don't mind paying a fair price for a service. In fact, I quite enjoy the free market. I admire rolex for their commitment to excellence, just not sure I need a full restoration, and rolex doesn't offer different levels of service.

If the watchg is functioning well then don't have it serviced.
