$500,000+ For A Watch
I know this is a Rolex forum but I can't pass on commenting on this albatross.
http://gizmodo.com/5032935/embedded-...h-worth-550000 Guess having money isn't synonymous with having good taste.

I can see it as an interesting clock sitting on a desk.
As a wristwatch = Fail

Has anyone actually bought one?
I guess Gizmodo hasn't heard of Patek's million dollar watch, or watches that are made of Titanic iron, or watches that run, but don't have hands to tell the time. There are many more expensive and easily way more silly expensive watches on the market.

no offense to anyone but did you read the specs guys:
Movement: * Hours, quarter and minute repeater, cathedral timbre, 62 jewels Functions: * Big date at 12 o'clock, indication of the cities of the 24 time zones linked to the GMT * Retrograde time zones with a linear double display situated at the lower and displayed in curvex position with indication arrows that indicate which side to observe (24 to 12 hours / 12 to 24 hours). * Transmission feedback, biplan, for time zone indications, made by 2 dials. * Power Reserve: 48h * Frequency: 18'000 vibrations / hour Globe: * 3 dimensions globe of 12mm diameter at 12 o'clock, considered as a visual GMT display turns on itself in 24 hours and can be set on local or on GMT time. I would honestly say thats not a bad set of complications and mechanical things with all that cost around that much too...its just that the styling is too modern and 'industrial' but that really is quiet common with a lot of small production number brands these days...look at 'rebellion' designs, HD3 complications, Azimuth Roboto and a lot of other stuff by them, and so on seriously...so I would say it is neither out of place in our time nor too expensive for what it offers..but thats just my opinion...if the style doesn't speak to some, I totally understand :) |

Honestly, for that kind of money, I'd rather have a Patek Philippe, Harry Winston, Greubel Forsey, etc. There are a lot of much more attractive pieces out there at that price point, IMO.

It should have Kanye West's head spinning around in it. He would buy it.

![]() ![]() reading more about that watch, I have discovered that the watch movement was made by Christoph Claret...and for those that dont know much about him he is an independent movt maker since 1992, who also makes machines that make watches, and his machines are in use at Rolex, Patek, Audemars et al just to name a few...he makes almost five new movts every year, last year saw eight, and has invented 65 new movts so far with 50 world-firsts...to put this in perspective, A.Lange & Sohne since its resurgence in 1993 has introduced 35 movements so far...his works include Jean Dunand Shabaka, Harry Winston Opus 4 and maitres du temps chapter 1 just to name a few he has the rights to name...he makes almost 400 movts a year in total at an extremely advanced lab-like factory in LeLocle, a building previously owned by Urban Jurgensen...many places in his factory have finger print scanning entrance for secrecy! oh and the best part, a Tourbillon is the 'simplest' movement he makes ![]() all that is no mean achievement man ![]() |

Not related to this watch specifically (which is not something I'd ever think about purchasing, even if I had all the money in the world), whenever I hear about a 500k watch, I think of the 20g Richard Mille RM027 which adorns Rafael Nadal's wrist when he's out there sweating buckets on the tennis court; despite its styling similarities to the OP's globed monstrosity, I must say that is a watch I can respect, as well as the wearer himself!

It's definitely up to personal preference, but think of what else you could buy with that.
A Carrera GT, A fleet of BMW's, a nice little cabin up in the finger lakes, a world cruise with Cunard... and the list goes on. Only a Patek is worth that kind of money to me. |

Not my cup of tea. I rather buy one of the 'Grande' Complications by Audemars Piguet or Vacheron Constantin. For instance, the AP Royal Oak Equation of Time or the AP Royal Oak Grande Complication are some of my favorites.

I`m kidding, that`s obviously something very unique and different. And, of course, NOT my cup of tea! But, horologicaly spoken, that`s one little marvel, and that`s for respect. ![]() ![]()
