What watch(es) do you get the most compliments on?
Just got a compliment the other day on my Tissot Sea Touch. That brings me up to 3-4 in the eight months since I bought it, which is nice. By comparison though my relatively cheap $150 Fossil (orange face on steel/aluminum) brought in way more compliments back in my college days ('95-'99). One person even stopped me on the street to say nice watch back then, but ah well.
I don't have my first rolex yet, but I'm pondering getting a DJ in salmon or blue, a polar ExpII, an ExpI, or a TOG in white, blue, or black. No diamonds. Having never been a Rolex owner I'm a slightly concerned about getting "is that real?" remarks and how I would handle them. I suppose that will depend on where I am and who sees it. I tend to mix with a wide segment of the population. That brings me to the question. What watch(es) do you get the most compliments on? And how does it typically go down? |

My Sub, SD or DJ. Usually, I receive a "nice watch there" or something similar.

About 8 years ago, I was standing in line @ Disneyland waiting for the ride, when a WIS walks by and says..."wow, nice 1655 explorer2"
That's been it since....I was impressed he could notice that quickly, walking by...he was a pro-WIS!

Don't have a Rolex yet, but looking at the DJ II, I think it's very pretty
I have gotten compliments on my Bulova Marine Star and Seiko Orange Monster though in the past!

Here we go again--for me--never happens. The only ones who notice are my fellow WIS's on the forums. For me--I like it that way!!!

My G Shock and Panerai's are the only watches someone has ever noticed and said, "nice watch".

I find it interesting that several people don't get their watches noticed, although I think an individuals surroundings could have something to do with it.
For example, I've owned a blue dialed Tag Heuer SeaRacer for about 7 years. It's been noticed and complimented on dozens of times. I'm 30 now, but throughout my 20s, while going out all the time and being at a lot of social events, many people complimented on it. Outside of the social scene, I'd say it gets noticed most on vacations. At the resort bars, snorkling/boat excursions, at the pool, etc... My wife was the one that bought it for me, so she enjoys the compliments I get as well. Now, I've owned my YachtMaster for 2 months but nobody has said anything about it yet. However, we are buried in snow in the North East, and my wife is pregnant - so we aren't exactly out and about all the time. Although I am extremely confident that when the summer hits, I will get compliments ;) If for some reason I don't, I'm fine with that as well because I couldn't be happier with the watch! (I don't have a pic of my Tag on me at work, but here is a stock photo - it truly is stunning in person) |

Nothing from me. I try not to make it too obvious unless I am at an AD and want them to focus their attention on me.

Im sure my watches get noticed, but comments are rare. My Panerais seem to get the most and probably because of their size...

Among those who've followed my evolving interest in watches, the DJ is by far the most complimented.
However, among the general public, I cannot say that anyone ever notices whatever watch I'm wearing.

My experience is that the boldest watches get the most comments. The more difficult the watch is to ignore, the higher the chance that it will get commented on. That doesn't necessarily mean the folks making the comments really love the watch. But, few people are going to say something uncomplimentary to a casual acquaintance.

My DateJust and white face Daytona receive alot of compliments. I think its because of the white face on both, but few know that they are Rolex.

The Omega Seamaster chrono gets the most comments in general, main reason being its very, very shiny.
Submariner is not shiny, gets no compliments. Shiny = good, not shiny = bad.
