Life in Tajikistan
Hey gang, thought I'd post a few pictures from my walkabout today. I did find a nice watch store. They had the original James Bond Omega for $3000. Lots of Omega and Tissot watches, and guess what their top brand is... RADO! Prices are way too high.
I have been trying to find a Russian watch. They are called "Commander's watches" here to refer to Soviet designs. Unfortunately since the country is butted up against China, stuff that is made in China is too easy to get. Well here are a few pictures to give you an idea of what I see when I walk in downtown Dushanbe. Enjoy! ----- Holes in the road are no big deal. Watch where you walk and drive! ----- Hack the phone line, add two phones, then start your own phone company! Making a phone call is still pretty cheap. ----- Most folks in the USA have dogs or cats. Not so here! ----- I'm not saying this place is dirty, but this is what we use to CLEAN things. ----- Enjoy your weekend! |

Great pictures, Robert!! Are you allowed to take a picture of embassy row or is that verboten? Is there a upscale district or does upscale mean you get bears in the 'hood instead of stray dogs?

Thanks for those pics, Robert....a wee bit nostalgic for me. Reminded me of Teheran (Iran) after the revolution way back in 1979.

The only upscale stuff are the Presidential mansions. This is one broke country! Rudaki is the main road and that is what I shot. I cannot shoot any pictures of Embassies, I am sure I'd ruffle feathers for doing so.

The only watch store in town. Hey JJ, they have RADO! Prices are about 200% of the prices in the USA.
The police here will enjoy this picture. What goes with offering Internet and IP-Phones? How about Polygraphy? And then we have the road crew. And THIS is the Officer of the Minister of Foreign Affairs! |

Great photos!!!! Really like the office of MOFA !!! Looks kind of peaceful place to take a walk through. Any good restuarants there?
Interesting photo of the watch store, those are the exact same 4 brands you will find for sale in Cambodia. No higher end Rolex, IWC, JLC, GP, PP, etc.... |

Fantastic photos!
Btw, the best Italian I've ever eaten was on a rooftop in Mexico. I'm doing the Pavlov's Dog thing just thinking about it. Pardon me while I run to the kitchen.

In the US we are impressed when a poodle stands on its hind legs. I love the guy in the middle in the background, he looks like he is about to run!

The best Italian food (and French...) in major US cities is probably made by Mexicans, Ecuadorians and Columbians. And bless them for it!

Well I managed to put Tajikistan on the map once again! I brought the Marines the traveling terabyte. Last year I sent it to Iraq to make its rounds there. The news on it is circulating well, and people are enjoying the story, not to mention the picture of the bear.
