16610 Submariner - First Post
Hi. I have been a long time lurker, never a poster. I finally created an account and wanted to share a picture.
I was also wondering if anyone has traded up to a 116610LN from a 16610 sub? If so what was the difference in price? How much did you get for your 11610 and were you able to get the 116610LV below MSRP? Anyone who has both the 16610 and the 116610ln do you see a major difference between the two watches? Do you think the upgrade is worth it? |

I was wondering about changing my 16610 with a 116610 but for sure the difference is so big that is better to wait and enjoy my "classic".

That's not to say the 16610 is not a fantastic watch that has certainly proved itself as an Icon. The changes to the 116610 were what I was looking for, Mainly the bracelet. I love the bracelet clasp and the solid links give the whole watch a more solid feel IMO. The Bezel really shines and the maxi dial is much easier for me to read day/night. The whole watch just feels more solid. Have you tried one on? I loved my 16610 but haven't looked back since the switch. I'm looking at a GMT pepsi now so the 116610 has company. Good luck! You can't go wrong with either!

nice pic and thanks for posting, i think the 16610 has better pedigree and it's lineage dates back much much longer than the SubC. if the 16610 fits and fits well than the need to look at a SubC starts to diminish rapidly. i purchased a 16610, the SubC wasn't available. i've looked at the SubC once since and had very little interest...
ceramic, glidelock and maxi are all fairly new technologies, rolex is really, in my humble opinion is about tradition... the improvements are 95% aesthetics... welcome and thanks again for the pic |

Don't get me wrong.............I like the SubC, but you would lose your shirt trying to get rid of the 16610 in the upgrade. Personally, I would prefer to have the 16610 anyways. I say save your money and buy something different so that you have 2 Rolex watches. Maybe a green Milgauss?

You need to decide if the cost you would pay to get the new bracelet and clasp is worth it to you..
The base price of a 116610 starts out at over a grand more than the 16610, and then there is depreciation etc, so the cost to do this will add up...

I have the 16610 and I honestly prefer it to the newer model. But I could be biased because I haven't actually tried it on so I won't comment on the clasp, but IMO they changed the watch too much. Still really cool but I consider it almost a different watch. If you traded your used watch you might expect to cough up another 2 grand+ to get the money for the new sub in new condition. If you go used or buy from TRF you could definitely save some money there though. Only you will know if it's the right choice for you. If you really love the new sub I would say go for it. But the 16610 is classic and there is nothing wrong with it for sure. Or you could just save up and have both.

So the 16610 does not have solid links?

very nice pic it looks like it should be hanging in a gallery with a big price tag on it.
