Wolf Design 2.5 winder for SS Daytona

I realize this is a stupid question so I apologize in advance. I would like to purchase the Wolf 2.5 winder for a SS Daytona. I have read that the Daytona requires 800-950 TPD, bi-directional. This winder is set at 900 TPD. I have read that wolf winders TPD double when you utilize bi-direction which would make this 1800 TPD. Question, at this many TPD would it damage the watch. Thank you for your assistance. The reason I am looking for a winder is that i will rotate the Daytona with a Date Just.

Given the ease of adjusting a Daytona (No Date) if it has not been worn, I question why you would even want to buy a winder for this particular watch.

If you somehow go for long periods without wearing this beauty, I would just wind it manually once per month to keep the movement lubricated.

The extra expense for a winder for this type of watch is really quite unecessary IMHO.

IMHO no Rolex oyster watch needs a watch winder, except the winder it was made for your own wrist. The Daytona has a power reserve of around 72 hours on a full manual wind around 60 full crown turns clockwise. If you must buy a winder any model will do, bi or unidirectional you cannot over wind any Rolex watch. And any Rolex on the wrist would turn quite a bit more while on wrist, than stuck in a machine box, thats in the same position mostly back and throe, a clutch mechanism in all Rolex Oyster watches prevents any over wind.Winders are just purely a convenience and IMO not needed with any watch that has just a date complication. It must take all of 30 seconds to wind reset any watch, its not any problem to wind or let any automatic or manual wind watch rest to a complete stop.

I have a Wolf 2.7 digital winder. I use the winder for both my wives and my watch rotations. Most folks here on TRF do not think a winder is necessary, but I find mine useful. The 2.7 can be set from 300-1200 TPD and 3 different directional modes.

A couple of years ago I asked a Rolex executive at a District Rolex show about watch winders. To my surprise the gentleman called Rolex in Switzerland and asked the "expert" watchmaker while on a speakerphone about winders. Although I will be honest, I understood very little of the conversation, the executive summed it up for me. Good winders such as Orbita, Wolf and Eilux will not hurt Rolex watches or shorten the length of time between service. Convenience would be the only reason for their purchase. He also said that Rolex would be coming out shortly with there own branded winder.

Now if Rolex would just come out with a 4 year calendar date ...

Well its quite funny dealing with Rolex Bexley for more years than I can remember. And talking to the various technicians there and not one ever recommened a winder for any Rolex watch. But now today its quite ironic Rolex themselves now have there own branded watch winder, watch winders = big ££££$$$$$$ and quite high profit for a simple plug and play convenience.

Please don't get me wrong, as I not questioning your experience at all. I was just relaying what I was told.

I think the OP may be mis-understanding the term "bi-directional".

All it means is that a Rolex will wind in either direction... not that you must set a winder to a "bi-directional mode" in order to wind it.. Your Date-just will also wind in either direction; it too is bi-directional..

I am surprised that a Wolf winder would double it's output simply by switching to a bi-directional mode. That is something that I would verify and not go by rumor.

In any event, it will not damage your watch movement at all .... It will cause the bridle in the mainspring barrel (case) to slip more than is ideal if it keeps over-winding it continuously, and so you may see pre-mature wear to the inside of the barrel..

I love winders!
I use them on most of my watches.
I would not waste my time, money or winder space
on a ND watch.

Many people even laugh that I use them on watches that
simply have a date.....
