Thinking of purchasing a PAM 112

As title above, but I've seen people talk about the PAM 000 as well. What's the difference? they look the same.

I'm based in the UK, what type of price should I be paying and any recommended AD?

The 0 is the Base Logo while the 112 is the base without the logo. Also the 112 has an exhibition back where you can see the movement while the 0 has a normal back. The 000 is the closest to the heritage and old style Panerai as far the back being sealed etc.

if you don't mind not having a small seconds dail then both are a good option,for me I prefer the seconds so went for the 111,if buying new you will be very lucky to get any discount as they are limited in number and not a lot of dealers in the UK,even in the rest of the world discounts are not easy to come by,you can ask and should get a free Panerai strap,it might not sound like much but they are around the £200 to buy so worth getting,as for which dealer,as there is probably no chance of a discount (you can always try,you never know)and some times stock is not always available,it could just be a case of ringing around the ADs on the Panerai site to see if they have what you want,one thing I do know is David M Robinson give you an extra year guarantee so 3 years instead of 2,not sure if the others do that too?

Just a thought. Saw a FS ad from an uk forum and there is a 112 for sale (H serial from memory). Let me know if you are happy with a pre-owned piece.

Possibly check out the 111 as well. I tried it on a couple days ago and WOW! It's still hard for me to believe it's one of the lower cost models! It's just exquisite.

ill be getting a alligator strap asap to swap out, black with white stitching.

112 current models have sandwich dial and clear case back.
000 current models have painted dial and solid case back.

the 112 case back is pretty dull but the dial is more modern
the 000 is traditional

cant go wrong with either. see which one you like.

Do panerai offer a rubber strap as an option?

^The models mentioned in this thread come with 1 leather and 1 rubber. Im pretty sure that a rubber strap is always included.

with some a rubber strap is included but don't let that worry you as they are a lot cheaper than the leather Pam straps.

Pam 112 is a classic piece, you can go wrong with any of them!

Do it, I actually prefer the base models more than the one with the small seconds. Also look at the 176.

I have the Pam000 and Pam005 (both logos). I find that I never wear the Pam000. I know it's cheaper to buy these in Europe than here, so you should check with local dealers to confirm pricing.

up for consideration are the 111 or 312. Can't decide whether I could live without the date or automatic movement in the 111.

Or I go for a Rolex Submariner or GMT IIc.

Another thing to consider when buying a Panerai is to decide exactly what you are after... Historical, Contemporary, Auto, manual, Luminor, Radiomir, painted dial, sandwich dial, sub second hand, GMT, power reserve, power reserve indicator, date, cyclops, DNA etc.

Many people will not even look at the base Models like the 000, 111, 210, 183 because of their prices. But most people do not know they are produced in alot less numbers per year, hence they are more difficult to come by.

I prefer the dateless look of the 111/112 but the reality is that having a date on a watch is a basic requirement for me which leads me to the 312. My preference is also an automatic watch, call it naivity or whatever but I think spending the money you do on a watch you'd expect it to run without having to manual wind it every few days. I've yet to see the benefits besides cost.

The option to change straps is a big plus, It could easily give the feel of a new watch without actually having to change it however I workout in the gym a lot and therefore I could see myself having the rubber strap as a permanant fixture.

How do the resale values compare to say a Rolex?

The resale value varies. Jus like some Rolex watches. The popular ones re always in a better demand than others.
Based on your criteria, have you looked 104? I believe 312 would be thicker than the 104 which can be abit of pita if you start knocking things around the gym with it's thickness.

Did consider it but not keen on the cyclops above the date, interestingly I don't mind it on a Rolex but on a PAM I prefer it to be a smooth surface.

Wouldn't mind seeing a side by side photo of the two to see the difference in thickness.

If you have a phone or work on a computer, then I don't see why a date is mandatory. Manually winding a watch, to me, is a pleasurable ritual, almost like playing vinyl. There is just something special and antiquated about the whole thing.

To give you an example of Panerai's resale value on lower end models, the 111 sandwich in used condition still sells for around $4k, just $1,600 off full retail.

But i dont have a 112 yet :( still on the prowl for one.
