A Rolex is only half dressed without a cyclops eye.

I know the cyclops is a trademark Rolex feature but I'm not a fan of cyclops.
Its hard to see the date with all the glare and distorted hands when they converged at the 3:15 mark.

I really feel sad that there can not be any cyclops on Daytona and even the next Rolex I like the most is SD, most probably my next purchase, also doesn't have cyclops

ALL date and datejust Rolex s have cyclops except for the Sea Dweller.
It is possible to have the cyclops removed (it is bonded to the crystal) but there is a risk when this is done. |

I love the cyclops...and here is the 1013...a non date
OP...36mm case/20mm lugs...no cyclops. But the cyclops is a design that worked best when it first came out and still has proven the best solution. All the big date stuff is a nice try at a third-best solution. The second best was the simple hand that pointed to a date chapter at the outer edge of the dial. The Big Date is just a clunky energy inefficient way to do the same job.
On a bracelet or strap, yellow or pink gold...the 1013 is my favorite dress and favorite daily driver watch. |
