Nylon, NATO, G10 with a suit?
We all know Sean Connery wore a nylon strap with a suit (a tux, even!), but he had a certain liberty to skirt the "rules" of fashion, being a fictional character. For us mere mortals, is nylon with a suit a forbidden combination? Do any of you wear nylon to the office?
I, for one, think some nylon staps, particularly ones with blacked out hardware are subtle enough to wear with a suit, and that their supreme comfort compels me to push the boundaries of what is acceptable office wear. |

Here we go...although I must say, you gave the "Is it ok to wear a Sub / Sports watch with a Suit" question a nice twist by adding the NATO question.
Many will say a gold/silver metal watch with a leather band is the only proper dress watch. Forget any watch with a bracelet... The NATO makes the look uber casual in my view... But if it works for you, enjoy!!! |

Do what makes you happy, period.
That pic makes the nylon alternative look particularly good. dP

If you're really fashion concerned, then no--nylon is not proper with a suit. Only exception would be a casual twill suit--the kind you would wear with a colorful patterned shirt, repp tie, loafers and no socks.
On the other hand, we don't really follow fashion rules anymore. I will admit that when I was actively prosecuting and defending criminal cases and in the courtroom a lot, I wore my 16610 on a NATO quite often, just because when you leave the house at 0400 on a trial day, you're not always thinking about changing your watch. Wear what you dig.

A NATO w/ a navy blazer & khakis, fine.
A suit......better to go w/ a metal bracelet or leather/reptile skin. But, I'm 59....younger guys may not give a rat's behind????

It always depends on the image that you want of yourself.......
However, a watch that is too bulky for the shirtsleeve to cover is a bit tacky... ......... But, as long as it matches your tennis shoes, no big deal...

As long as you are wearing a classy, conservative suit (i.e. not a mafia suit), any of those strap combos will look just fine. I'd worry more about the suit than whether you have a natro strap or a leather band or a SS bracelet.

As long as it isn't an orange NATO, I think it's fine. It gives an air of casual confidence to wear a sporty all-around watch with a suit, a NATO doesn't make it any worse. Day to day I would wear a NATO strap watch... But for formal occasions, dinners, weddings etc - no. Wear a dress watch for special occasions.

This. Also, divers watches are not dressy anyway, so the nato is your 2nd problem, if you actually want to be "proper".

It looks great in your photo! I've never done it and have historically not been a huge fan of NATO straps due to the amount of extra strap that I have to tuck. However, I've actually been wearing one this weekend and I'm warming up to it.

Bond James Bond. If it was good enough for him it works fine for me. Wear whatever suits you. Who cares what anyone else thinks! Cheers!

Fiction indeed - if I recall, Bond wore his tux under a wetsuit so that he could infiltrate the dinner party undetected. He also set up some explosives and was counting down the seconds with his Sub in the scene we're all thinking of.. It seems Bond was using his sub as Rolex originally intended - as a toolwatch. So I think a nylon strap was appropriate given those circumstances. In that context, a nylon strap with a business suit for a boardroom meeting may seem a bit out of place... But then, I'm also a believer that you should wear what you like. |

Too informal. In fact, nylon shouldn't be worn with a Rolex.

If you don't have anything more appropriate to wear with a suit you don't really have much choice.

Mr. Bond is a fictional character, yes, but what he represents is masculinity at its manliness. Fashion, IMHO, has this notion of following and conforming to the masses, turning its captives into mindless drones. What ever happened to style, which is more personal. The man in that picture portrays the free thinker, an adventurer, a power broker and one who sets the trend. It's style over fashion, go out and be a man. I like it. And remember, when all the other gents are wearing their ultra slims on crocodile, its going be this guy who leaves with the babe.

For me it is a no-go , unless it is a geuine MilSub or you really are James Bond.
Then again, whatever makes one happy. If I see someone in a suit wearing a Nato, it doesn´t make me think less of him. On the other hand, you also see a lot of plastic Casio with suits, so a Rolex on Nato in that crowd, is certainly good taste |

I look at it in the context of the total package. That is - are your shoes shined, (nice)suit pressed, nice tie, etc. If so, screw convention and go with what makes you feel good. The confident attitude you exude is more important than what statement a particular band will or will not make as far as others are concerned. Besides, who always wants to follow the rules all the time anyway (boring, yes?). In my humble opinion, of course.

Has anyone ever been approached and been told thier watch, watchstrap or bracelet is not appropriate for the worn attire?
A Rolex fastened with mint dental-floss would be better than the junk of what I've seen on peoples wrists lately.
