New to Rolex - Need Advice on a 16800 purchase
I've done some research and found some great information here on this forum, but I am curious if everything checks out on this Matte Dialed 16800.
The paperwork can't be correct as it has a 9.4 million serial? |

As with all things Rolex, nothing is carved in stone.......
But most collectors would say that anything over 8.6 mil. (more or less) should have had a gloss dial.... There are always exceptions to the rule, but I would not purchase a 9.4 Mil. 16800 that has a Matte Dial.... Unless the original owner could prove that the watch came that way, I would pass..... But that's only one man's opinion.... |

Thanks for the reply. At first I thought the paperwork might have been from another watch, but the seller confirmed the serial number matches the watch.

Yes, I won the auction. I am concerned about the dial not being original to the watch and I think the crystal may be an aftermarket replacement. In hindsight, these are things I should have addressed before bidding as I have come to find out vintage watches often contain non original parts.

Personally, I believe the dial to be authentic Rolex, but I am skeptical as to whether or not it is original to the watch. For that kinda money I would want something more concretely original.

The dial is probably an authentic Rolex dial...It just doesn't belong on that watch.....
