A GMT or a Sub with a suit is a great look. Been waeing my GMT with a suit for years ( and with a Tux on many occasions ).

Absolutely!! If James Bond (that icon of style) can do it... surely I can too
I have often said that I find it a bit humorous that this question comes up as often as it does. My view is that if I want to wear a watch that likely cost at least 4-5 times as much as the suit I am putting on that it my choice. Of course that assumes that most of us "average" folks think a $1,000 suit is just fine. If you shop on Saville Row then you probably have a different viewpoint. |

Mr. Blackwell, GQ & The Watch Snob all say no.................me too....
& if you are a real watch afficionado, you have dress & tool watches. Remember one can never have too many watches, he who dies w/ the most watches wins.

Do what you like. But if you're asking,
you kind of know already. Its just whats proper, not a rule that cannot be broken. |

Well my suits range.. in price.. some of it... is up there.. but those are only a few.
But to me it's not about the price of the suit or the watch, but more the overall look. James Bond is an exception and we should all know this by now :) LOL btw, he is also fictional hahahaha thanks for the feedback awaiting the suit snobs to reply! heh heh perhaps i should be posting this on a clothing forum, i wonder if the answer would vary from a watch forum |

then, IMHO, a "dress" watch should be worn....any datejust, day-date, regular or II is a dress watch...whether on bracelet or strap. P.S. brown watch strap: brown belt & shoes, black strap: black belt & shoes, please. In fact for a daytime "dress" watch a datejust is perfect to me, more so than a Cellini type watch (for me those are evening wear, formal tux watches) The only tool watch I wear w/ a suit is my explorer......I don't wear "sport" watches w/ markers on bezel w/ a suit. But then again, I am 59 & old school......I see young guys wearing giant "sport" watches w/ suits. Not for me, not my look/style.

Are we talking about real tool watches like Casio G-Shocks or are we talking about Rolex watches?? I see many Rolex Submariners in some very stuffy and conservative board rooms.

On the rare occasion that I wear a suit or a tux, I usually choose to wear my Datejust, but I have worn both my Submariners and my Sea Dweller (16600) and they look great to me. A good rule of thumb...if the style of dress is appropriate, then wear what you like and don't worry about what other people think.

Yes, I wear my 16610 with a suit, one of these days I'm going to do it with a james bond nato strap.
However I do really like the look of a sleek dress watch that tucks under a suit cuff. Every man deserves an everyday tool watch AND a special occasion dress watch, that's what I say. |

I think it is perfectly fine to wear a Sub or a GMT-IIc or even the Explorer or II with a suit. I see it done all time in NYC. I have seen plenty of celebs do it as well. Brian Williams on the NBC nightly news wears a Sub with a suit almost every night.

Because of my body shape, my suits have to be tailor-made. Thus, I recently purchased a black-dial platinum Cellinium to go with the suits. Imho, it looks more appropriate than the Milgauss I was wearing before.
