Rolex Red Sea-Dwellers Movement advice
Can anyone tell me the difference between the 5# and 6# movement in the 1960's Rolex Red Sea-Dwellers, 1665 reference #? Which one was used in the watch first? Is one more valuable in the watch than the other? Why?
Thanks, Frank |

Hey Frank,
As Nick said, I'm not sure I totally understand. The 1665 was an acryllic crystal reference with a slow beat movement, while the 16660 used the 3035 fast beat, and was fitted with a sapphire lens. The first 16660s had a matt dial and are considered "transitionals" in that they bridged the gap, if you will, between the plastic 1665 and the modern 16600. Matt dial watches are quite collectable with prices in the high 4 digits to 5 digits. Generally these are watches in the 6 to late 8 mil. range. |

Good information guys and agree 100%,the first SD was called Submariner 2000 Sea Dweller in red on the dial. And that disappeared around 1973 but some say later, then around 1980 major update from the 1665 to 16600
