Bruno--It is a super rare 3646 Cali G--from 1944 era. If it is 100% original-which it appears to be-although can't tell for certain from that one pciture-it is worth a fortune-well above $100k. I know of only one person who has one in perfect shape--Marcus from VRF. I know of one 3646 B type for sale for $110k--not Cali G though. The movement is Rolex finished-would love to own one someday! Cheers!

The reasonable alternative is the 249.

Different collector: Vintage vs. modern. Whole different world- like comparing a vintage PN screw down to a new Panda. The 249 is a cool modern piece though!

Thanks for the informative post. While this might be my dream watch I was hoping it wouldn't be that expensive. I hope you get yours.

I might look into this for my next expensive watch purchase. Would you consider this a hard to get model?

I'm starting to like the whole vintage watch segment. Like these...

But I'm positive they are all out of my price league. Do you think the 249 is worth the 8.3kish they retail for? It just doesnt look like it should cost that much. Its just a different dial on a rad.?? right.

They are very expensive. The 6152/1 MM is among my favorite Panerai and the tropical Luminor is amazing. They are all amazing. I personally love the vintage models- so rare and unique. One has to be very careful though who they buy from as so many have been put together and changed. All of them - 3646, 6152/1 and 6154's are rare and a fortune - 6 figure watches. Cheers and happy hunting. If you want a lot of great info check out Ralf Ehler and Volker's website and books.

Thanks for all the info but the days of me being able to buy a 6 figure watch are very distant away if ever at all. I can see myself selling everything I own in Massachusetts someday and moving down to Florida and if I had an extra 6 figures maybe I would do it because I wont need to leave any inheritance to anyone and I want to die with not a cent to my name but if I had that much money left over I'd blow it on an exotic car first before a watch.
For now I'll just look at the pretty pictures and live vicariously through you.

Dude, if you can get a 249 at retail, do it, but you can't. They go for 11k-13k. :-(
