Confused?? Which model IS the Goldfinger Submariner?

I've read the guides on here but still confused??? (Might have had one too many drinks last night lol)

Which model IS the Bond Goldfinger Submariner? Does anyone actually know for certain?

Is it a 6200? Or 6204? Or 5508?

I think it's now been agreed pretty much that the strap is a Nylon Regimental so thats one less thing to get confused over!

Was it hard to find? And if you don't mind me asking what was the ballpark you paid for it? Kind of tempted to sell my RG Daytona as I fancy a vintage sub.

Next to impossible to find--took a long time--very few in existence and virtually none in mint condition!

Connor, your 6538 (the exact bond model) is beautiful and such in good condition!
The bezel has the little red triangle. I love it.
Antiquorum recently sold one 6538 in Hong Kong for approximately $90'000!
Keep it preciously!

They did--I know that watch--it had a dial that was scratched and not original bezel so that is why it went so cheap!! I know the whole story behind it--not bad though for the money.

Connor, by curiosity, do you wear this watch often, or only in rare occasions?

Wearing right now! I wear them all and everyone is as accurate as a new one and give me much enjoyment!! I have a solid rotation and go to bank vault once a week and change them out. I never keep more than one on me and each one gets ample wrist time!! Once you go vintage you never go back or forward better yet! Cheers!

Actually I have never gotten a comment on any of my vintage Rolex. The only people who know what they are belong to TRF, VRF, TZ and PP etc. That is what I love about them - they are for me and nobody else except my vintage buddies have any clue!!

So true my friend, the average Joe just thinks I have an ugly beat up old piece of junk on my wrist and I absolutely love it. But when you show a fellow WIS or share with the the friendly people on TRF its much appreciated.

I'm with steeler fan, I've never gotten a compliment aside from people "in the know."
I quite enjoy that, especially for someone who takes public transportation!

Vintage watches are for sure more discrete.
I love to think that I'm mixing a passion with a good investment.
However, I get a lot of comments, maybe it is because I live in Geneva.
By the way, I have noticed for several years already that auctions in Europe and Asia often outperform.

I think what ends up throwing some people is the bezel that was on the Bond watch...

As you can see it didn't have the red triangle or 15 minute marking. Some often incorrectly identify it as a later model due to this.

This is likely as close as I'll get to one. Should be arriving later this year after a 2+ year wait...

It comes with extra bits too...

Redardless of bezel insert it is either a 5510 or 6538 Big Crown. It is not an earlier model or a small crown reference looking at size of crown. Most in vintage world have accepted that it is one of those two references unless someone wants to claim Rolex made a reference none of us know about. Many bezel inserts over years have been replaced but the dial and crown speak to the reference.

Ps: the bezel insert is from a 6204/6200 but again it is a BC Sub not a small crown- so watch is a 5510 or 6538 as it certainly is not a 6200.

Yes, I agree on all points. I personally think 6538. We must be reading the same stuff. ;)

I was just pointing out that this aspect of the watch (insert) has probably caused the most confusion for folks who haven't read and studied extensively.
