Datejust 16220
Hi everyone,
I just bought this datejust with a fluted bezel but I recently read that 16220 is an SS engine turned bezel. Does that mean this is an aftermarket replacement? Also, are all fluted DJ bezels gold? I just paid via paypal but the seller has a 72 hour return policy and I am sure paypal has some protection as well. Thanks a lot. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT |

The watch looks good to me, the bezel should be white gold. I don't know if there is a way to tell if the bezel is after market.
Looks like a fine watch, enjoy! |

Thanks. My first rolex so I am pretty excited. So not all 16220 DJs are SS engine turned?

Actually the 16220 reference is indeed stainless steel with a stainless steel engine turned bezel. The 16234 is a ss with a white gold fluted bezel.
It is not uncommon to find a 16220 where someone has retrofitted a a WG fluted bezel in lieu of the SS bezel. It could be a Rolex or an aftemarket one. Looks like a real nice Datejust from the pics and that appears to be a genuine WG bezel to me. (not a cheap aftermarket ss fluted bezel) It has a different hue than the SS. I wouldn't worry to much about it. It would be interesting to see if the case is stamped 16220 or 16234. Either way, congrats on a nice watch. |

Yep, I had the 16220 with the regular bezel and yours looks fine. Looks consistent with white gold.
Congratulations! The first is just the beginning of an addiction! :-)

How do you like the 16220?
emc894 - How are you like this DateJust? Any thoughts on what it's like on the wrist? I am thinking about purchasing one similar to yours, with the engine-turned.. would be my first rolex.

16220 does indeed denote an engine turned bezel but I have seen on several occasions a fluted bezel added on. It is often cheaper to do this than buy a 16234 model straight out.
I am on the fence regarding this bezel's originality. I would have it checked out. Original white gold bezels from this vintage are stamped on the back with 2 tiny circles with a Rolex crown in those circles. |

Please start a new thread if you have a question. Don't dig up ancient ones. Thanks
