<---New Guy! First Rolex...!
Hello all...
I've been lurking on these forums for a few months researching a 'possible' upcoming purchase. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for the informative posts regarding these great timepieces. I had always loved the Sub from the first time I began looking into Rolex. My first 'serious' watch purchase was a Tag Heuer Aquaracer...so from the start, I was drawn to the diver/sport watch. When I began looking into Subs, it was a hard sell with my wife..."it looks just like your Tag..." she would say. As often as I do look at my Tag for the date, I really just do not like the cyclops on the Sub-date...the 14060 was the logical choice for me. Plus, knowing it's history and significance, clean-cut look...etc...I had to have it. Other options I considered were an Exp II or Sea Dweller. While I gave the SD serious thought - the price range made it a hard sell. I also felt it might have been a little too big for my wrist. I do like the non-COSC dial slightly better on the ND, but for my first Rolex, it also being a gift from my wife - we both wanted BNIB. I had been trying this watch on at every AD I could over the last few years. We were in Mexico this past week and an AD had the ND for a price I just couldn't walk away from. The price, coupled with this new 'taxback' program certain shops in Mexico now offer - sealed the deal. I am now a proud owner of a BNIB ND - this being my first Rolex...I finally decided to join-up and share. Cheers everyone...great looking watches! Eric PS - this might be sacrilege Rolex wise, so I apologize in advance - but has anyone here ever seen a Sub Date with the crystal changed for one with no cyclops? |

Well, recently learning you can remove a cyclops - I'd love a Sub date and do just that. I really love the "red" Sub (1680?) - however, this is more my, "I can dream piece." I heard rumors the red writing could be re-visited? An Explorer is most likely the next candidate. However, I feel the wife might have caught the "bug" now... Thank you for all the comments! Eric |

Welcome Eric and congrats on the watch. You are definitely moving into dangerous territory if your wife is catching the bug as well. The one positive is she will more supportive when you start going crazy and buying your 2nd, 3rd, fourth.... watch. It is a sickness and this place does not help.

Very nice indeed. The same thing happened to me when I bought my first Rolex, when I said to my wife what I was planning on next she replied "wait, what about me?" She now owns a beautiful TT Everose DJ and I was able to purchase 3 more after that.

How about a positive being that it's great when a couple shares a collecting interest, and who knows, maybe you'll both be onto 2, 3, 4! Congrats. |

While in the AD, I noticed they also carried David Yurman - which she loves. I recommended she go over and pick something out (to seal the deal on the Sub of course) Come to think of it, to secure my second Tag a year ago - I recommended she pick one out as well. The Rolex journey shall be an expensive one, especially when you start buying them in pairs.... |

welcome and enjoy that classic cousin to Steve McQueens watch. Nothing like strapping on your first rolex for the first time. Truly a crown for every achievement, has the smile left your face yet?
