Is it safe to wear my Rolex on vacation in London????
I could not resist the title.....
Actually I will be in London the last week of the month and no, my name was conspicuously absent on the guest list for the Royal wedding. I was wondering if there are any watch shops/jewelers worth nosing around in from a Rolex/vintage Rolex point of view. Also, willing to buy a drink or two for any TRF members in London if there is any interest and scheduling permits. |

If you are going to socialize w/ the local TRFer's (I won't mention names) you'd better leave your Rolex at home.

Apparently Burlington Arcade's always good for window-shopping & Steve if you clarify your availability I'd be more than happy to trip into town & buy you a beer...... or eleven.

Just hire the old lady that defended the jewelry store and you'll be fine.

Doesn't London have Jack the Ripper, or did they ever catch that guy? You need to keep that in mind.
And there's whores, too. (Weren't they Jack's victim of choice?) I would avoid the whores. There's also evil Professor Moriarty. Oh, yeah, and the taxation without representation. And the redcoats. In fact, better just stay out of all of Great Britain. Just visit Washington State instead. |

Just don't quiz people about how to use their Daytona Bezel and you should be safe!

Actually, I was going to ask....
Is it safe to wear my Daytona from the bedroom to the living room if I have pillows covering the floor and the watch on my left wrist is covered by my free right hand???? |

On a serious note, it is safe in most parts of London. My wife and I went in 4/2010 and had a great time. I wore my Sub Date.
Burlington Arcade is the place to visit, but prices are not for the faint of heart.

Welcome to London, great place for the watch aficionado.
The best places to visit for a non-AD experience are Bond St and Burlington Arcade. If you start from Oxford St and head down New Bond Street, you will find the WatchCentre 40yards on the left. A nice starter and some very cool vintage sports pieces, everything from Steve McQueen explorers to Paul Newman Daytona’s, with a nice sprinkling of 60's/70's GMT's and Subs. As you come down you see a bunch of AD's to satisfy you modern watch itch. A great variety of the usual suspects. Once you get to the end of New Bond St you will come onto Old Bond St, the home of flagship Rolex and Cartier. The PP flagship store is not far away either. Try heading into Royal Arcade (right next to Rolex), you will find the WatchClub there. Again nice collection plus they are the UK agents for ProHunter so I nice range of blacked out sports models. Once you have finished indulging head on to Burlington Gardens and take a right into the infamous Burlington Arcade. The standouts here are Armour Winston, David Duggan and the very special VintageWatchCompany. Keep VWC to the end... you'll understand why when you get there.
