Have you ever been faked out by an Invicta
Twice in the past week, I thought I caught someone wearing a rollie only to see them up close and realize it was an invicta. I was about to say something like "hey NICE gmt pepsi"...but then whoa!---fakeout

A Invicta is not a fake it does not state anywhere on the watch its other than a Invicta.Just because it may be in the style of a Rolex don't mean its a fake. Now Rolex did not invent every style of watch on this planet and over the decades there have been many watch brands that looked similar. Now take the original Submariner it looked very similar the the Blancpain 50 fathom that was out a full 9 months before the first Rolex retail sub was.

Good point. I didn't mean to imply the watch was a fake...just that I mistook it for something it wasn't.

Never one time. When I see a Rolex-looking watch, I assume it's either a fake or an Invicta-type of thing. Then I look closer to see if it's possible, (maybe 10% of the time), that it's a Rolex.

Blancpain 50 Fathoms first tested and retailed in 1952, the first Rolex sub prototype in 1953. And many watches back in the 1940s to 1960s looked very similer to most makes worldwide at this time:
And the first 1953-4 Sub is very very similar to the Blancpain 50 Fathoms, and the first Rolex models had just plain stick hands basically it was a modded TOG,and did not the Mercedes hands like in below picture, these were a little later.

So true padi, a lot of Rolex nuts like to "forget" about the 50 fathoms. I understand the point that the op was trying to make by not implying that the invicta is a fake Rolex but has confused one for the other. It's happened to me and with seiko as well.

I'm just happy to see people wearing watches.......yesterday I was at my other "office", one of the many Starbucks in my sales territory.....& I was in line w/ a young guy wearing a big SS Invicta that had a Panerai vibe.....we chatted, he loved his watch, had 12 watches in his collection, started w/ quartz, now loves automatic mechanicals.....it was kinda neat hearing that from a "kid" he was in his mid 20's.
He was very enthusiastic, I dug that. My kid'll probably sell all my watches after my ashes are sprinkled by the Rolex factory.

I am often very impressed with how nice some of the INVICTA line of watches look, not my cup of tea but YES, they do look great and you cannot beat the price A great purchase for a child interested in watches/young adult IMO

Yes! I was flying last summer and a co-pilot was hanging out by the front of the plane resting his hand on the overhead luggage area and I swore it was a white-faced Daytona. As he walked down the plane and got closer to me the large ugly Invicta logo became more clear . Its really a cheap looking watch up close.
I cringe when I see them hawking Invicta on those shop-at-home networks, but somehow cannot turn away because I cannot wait to hear what kind of garbage comes out of their mouths about the engineering in the Invictas haha.

The first Submariner called a Turn O Graph:
" Between the 40′s and 50′s, there was an increasing concern on the seabed minerals. The exploration and development of seabed mineral resources was only one field of marine business, but it costed a large amount of human, material and financial resources, especially the exploration of oil, gas and manganese, it almost formed a worldwide boom in one night. Just in 1950, a Rolex’s new watch attracted people’s attention, besides the Rolex Oyster feature, this watch also added a rotating bezel, which was called the “TRN-O-GRAPH” and had one hour scale, so it could accurately calculate the time span in one hour. From its appearance, this watch had the obvious features of modern Submariner: black dial, black rotating bezel, round markers, “Mercedes-Benz” hand. Attention, its case diameter was only 34.5mm, the watch was equipped with the “Bubble Back” movement – A260 and was water resistant to 50m. The famous Cross marker on the crown, I guess, this watch was the earliest predecessor of Submariner." Jacques Cousteau designed the first Submariner: "In 1953, Rolex decided to produce a professional diving watch: Submariner. This idea came from the design department. The main designer, Jacques Cousteau, served in the Navy in the past and was also a diving enthusiast. He had been to the deep sea, and attached particular importance to the reliable timer. So Submariner must meet the following requirements: 1, Good visibility in the deep sea, high contrast ratio black dial & big luminous hands. 2, Good antimagnetic, waterproof and anticollision structure. 3, Good corrosion resistance and be resistant to intense temperature difference. As the first generation of Submariner, Ref. 6204(1953-1956) was different from 6202, Ref. 6204 was water resistant to 100m. In the appearance, the hand was changed, simple straight tip hand replaced the “Mercedes-Benz” hand. To be convenient to identify, the header of the second hand was round luminous dot, not biting. During the same period, Rolex produced the Ref. 6205(1954-1956), compared with 6204, not only 6205 had the “SUBMARINER” words, but it also marked 100M=330FT waterproof depth on the dial, 6205 still used A260 movement. Ref. 6200(1954-1957) was a special edition of Submariner. The difference between it and other ordinary Submariner featured Roman numeral hour markers at 3, 6 and 9. In my opinion, I didn’t think these numerals had a higher recognition than the common sticks at 3, 6 and 9, but rarity enhanced value. 6200 was equipped with A296 movement, in addition, between 0 and 10 minutes on the bezel, there was no minutes scales that could be found on other Submariners. From Ref. 6538(1956-1964), Submariner came to the second generation. The same as the earliest 6202, this generation of Submariner also had the iconic “Mercedes-Benz” hand. 6538′s case diameter was increased to 38mm, the watch used Cal. 1030 Butterfly Rotor movment, the best movement at that time and had passed the COSC test. Below the “Crown” logo on the crown, “+” was changed into “BREVET” words. The more important thing was 6538 could be water resistant to 200M, it created a new waterproof record. Ref. 6536(1956-1964) was 6538′s cheaper no COSC version, although it also used Cal. 1030 movement, 6536 didn’t have COSC, featured 37mm case diameter, water resistant to 100M and much cheaper than the 6538." Yes, but the real "mother of all" is, in my opinion, the Rolex Turnograph with its turning bezel, and it was launched before the FF Blanpainc. |

If someone puts a "rolex" label on the dial and are not one then I would call it a fake.

From a distance its hard to tell, but up close and handling them you see and feel how cheap Invictas are, not just in quality and workmanship, but in the subtleties of design.

One of the guys at work has an older invicta, and it's a dead ringer for a Sub. Another guy has a newer one and you can tell the difference more easily. It has PCL's and a different edge on the bezel.
