I'm going to let this run because I think that it is an interesting customization. Also, metal engraving is a time honored craft used on many luxury items and tools for a one-of-a-kind look and to increase durability - scratches and wear do not show up on engravings as easily as smooth or brushed parts...
It's not my style, but I think it looks a whole lot more interesting than the black PVD coatings that seem to be the norm in customization... (Commercial ads, or blatant solicitation will be removed..........)

Not my look. But I appreciate the skill and craftsmanship involved.

Nice watch but you need to work on your grammar. There is no apostrophe in ancestors (0.26) or heirlooms (0.57).

I am also a purist when it comes to watches and engravings... plain is better. But I really can appreciate the art of engraving. I have some "other toys" that have engraving and it is amazing the details that you guys can achieve.
Do you engrave by hand or use the "new fangled" laser engravers?

Not my taste but well done. I wonder if the OP learned his trade engraving "other toys" as they are the only other things I've seen with that style of acanthus leaf scrollwork.
I'd like to see a wrist shot of the complete watch.

Mr. Hans Wilsdorf did not engrave Rolex watches, except for the case backs.

From looking up the guy who signed his work on the receiver of my 'firestick', master engravers tend to engrave pretty much everything; Pens, Zippos you name it. I'd imagine he's done a lot of items before undertaking a Rolex case.

Though, when the time is right, I'll be doing the case back only.

I thought of having a lot of colourful expletives engraved on the back of mine along with an inappropriate picture of the male sexual organs incase it is ever stolen. Though I reconsidered imagining it might harm the resale value somewhat

That is why you invest in an extra case back, then you can engrave a pretty multi color rainbow on the extra case back and when you sell it you can swap it out with the one that came with the watch. :)

I think it would look more elegant on a precious metal watch
