What are Gloss Black Dials Made of?

And how are they made? I can understand Rolex being secretive about their exact method. It almost seems cut out of any video I've seen from Rolex. Like they just magic them that way! Anyone know more?

The basic dial is simply painted brass..

There are some exotics, such as the Meteorite which is actually shaved rock applied to the plate, and the Platinum dials, etc..

Thanks for that. I feel silly now. Certainly a nice piece of painted brass anyway!
