First Rolex
Recently got my first rolex, an Explorer 2. I'm starting to get interested in watch collecting and timepieces in general. Was wondering if some of you could give me some advice on the best way to learn more about watches and if I could get some help in getting a focus in my collection.

Sometimes it takes years before a collector gets "focus" and starts zeroing in on their collection goals..
You're starting off fine... There is a wide range of "4 hand" watches that give you plenty of latitude, diversity, and collector enjoyment.. Here are some of my 4 hand watches... (I've even got some Ulysse Nardin GMT/dual time watches that do it with only 3 hands, but an extra wheel window) ![]() ![]()

Typically the discontinued model will spike in value as interest is generated in them.. It the GMT II is any indicator, there will be a mania of sorts when everyone realizes that the Explorer II discontinued models have a 3186 in them, (earlier models used the 3185) and the new 42mm models have a 3187, leaving only a handful of 3186 movement Explorer II's... This will become an Internet craze and flurry with silly asking prices, but will only last a couple of years.... ![]()

Congratulations! It's a sick hobby!
There will be at times buyers remorse, seller's remorse etc, but overall it's a good hobby. Seriously, it's the only 'jewelry' that us men have. Quote:

Welcome. JKust hanging out here will give you a vast knowledge of watches in general. I essentially knew nothing about watches when I first joined but this site has been amazing. You will soon find yourself addicted and trying to figure out ways to add more watches to your collection.

Stop now while you still have a chance...just kidding...you only go around once, so you might as well do what you like. I collect Rolex spert watches and prefer to buy them pre owned...they hold their value nicely if you buy right. Good luck and have fun.
