Here is my dilemna...
I was planning on getting a new Sub-C to celebrate my upcoming engagement (by the end of the year).

Of course as my luck goes, Rolex comes with a price increase. Should I pick it up now or just suck it up and pay more money later? Even if I did buy it now, it would still be my "engagement watch", but I'm not sure it would be the same. I'd like to hear opinions.

Before the "getting opinions from a bunch of Rolex forum members..." replies start coming...

I'm just looking for conversation. I don't have any other outlet to discuss anything like this.

Russ, only you can determine whether the extra $590.00 you may be confronted with will be worth the feeling you spoke of.

Personally, what I would do is purchase the watch now...then tuck it away and don't look at it until that special day comes. This option may very well offer you the best of both worlds.

If you think you can wait, and it will be more special to you to have the watch when you are actually getting engaged, then definitely wait, the trusted sellers here on the forums will get you a great deal regardless of the price increase, of course, the price of theirs will go up, but not as much as an AD. Congrats BTW.

You might be able to put it on layaway at the present price,then pick it up when your special day arrives.That way you have the price locked in.

Well, first off, congrats on the engagement... its a big step.
I would just buy the SubC at the for sale forum here and save a bunch of money. Just my 2c.

Thanks Drew. If I did get it now, I would definitely tuck it away until the day.

I thought about the layaway route. I may need to call and check on that. This way the both of us could go and pick it up like I had planned.

That is also on the table. The only reason I'd like to go the AD route is just for the instant gratification, plus the experience of me and my fiance picking it up instead of waiting for it to come in the mail.

I dunno what to do, LOL.

Since you're sure to buy it, I think you should buy now before the price rise, unless you know some ways to invest the money and get 8%+ return. I'd just buy it, but delay wearing it until that special day.

In the process now... within a couple weeks I'll have it. I have enough saved for both if that matters.

Personally, I'd get the engagement out of the way first to avoid thoughts like "well, I want to wear the watch, so, might as well as propose."

Or, propose before the price increase, and go together to the AD. At least you'll know she's said "yes".

I recently got engaged as well, last December, and in January I bought a sub. I waited on the sub just to make sure I/she didn't think of any last minute upgrades. Personally, if you have it all planned out, I wouldn't wait on either items (especially with a price increase coming).

I bought my last Sub from DavidSW as well. I know that it would be an easy pain free way to get the Sub. I bought my first new sub from an AD, then I bought from DavidSW and said that I would never go to an AD again. For some reason this particular situation just feels different.

Get it now and tuck it away. Otherwise you are paying someone else for the privledge of linking it to your engagement.

Personally I'd avoid lay-away as I would prefer to have it at my house, but if helps you to link it to the engagement then it's an option.

Is your fiance-to-be involved or aware? If so then have her/him tuck it away so you are not tempted.

Along the same lines, my wife bought me an awesome sports car for my 50th B-day...it just happened to work out a that I got it a month or so prior to the actual day...but it was still my b-day present. And ironically, I am going to Australia for my birthday...however, the day I 'lose' due to the time change and travel is my actual birthday...so I really won't even have a 50th birth 'day'!
