Thanks for all the birthday wishes, gang. And a special thanks to you, Mike, for posting that beautiful pic.

It's been a quiet day at home on a rainy Sunday. But after all the running around we've been doing, I don't mind this time for relaxation at all.

Tonight I get to take my mother, my daughter and her fiance out for dinner (guess who's treating).

Wait a minute, Ed...Isn't that backward?

And you are probably getting the rain we had yesterday associated with Tropical Depression Barry. Some very much-needed rain for us!

In our family, we do just about everything bass ackwards.

And thanks for the precip. We needed it as well. Just went through one of the dryest Mays on record around these parts.

How are the fires around your way? Out yet?

You're welcome for the liquid sunshine, Ed. Share and share alike!

The rain seems to have done the trick. All of the areas where fires were still burning received from 1-3 inches of rain. Whew!!!

That's good news. So by the time we get down to Boca on July 4th, the air should be reasonably clear.

Thanks again, guys. I really appreciate all the well wishes.

I thought I could sneak through this in the office, and thought I was off the hook when no one did anything on Monday (the day after). Then I had to go to Germany for a couple of days ( left Tuesday night and got back last night) so nothing was happening. Today, my secretary came into my office in mid-afternoon and said she was meeting with HR in a conference room and they wanted to speak with me. So I follewed her down the hall to the conference room wondering what did I do that HR needed to see me. I opened the conference room door and there was a room full of people with a big birthday cake in the middle of the table. They got me good.

The cake - a strawberry shortcake - came from a bakery called Reeves, a Washington tradition for many years (certainly longer than I've been here and that's 45+ years). To top it off, my secretary gave me a gift box, which turned out to be a blueberry pie (my all time favorite) which I took home and had with dinner. All in all, a nice day.
