Have you warmed up to the maxi case...
Ok I have a 116610 LN incoming. The only thing I am not sure if I will warm up to is the squarish case ...
Has anyone over here had the same issue and once a few hours on the wrist this issue disappeared? Or was it too much that you had to sell the watch..? |

You're going to get both responses on this one! I love mine-on my wrist I have no problem with the shape. In pics I don't think it looks so good.
Hopefully you'll like it-it is a great watch. Cheers. |

I think that it in photographs the proportions of the case look much more square and blocky than the watch looks in person. On the wrist, I LOVE my Sub C. I also own a "classic" 16613 with lug holes and I believe that the Sub C is better in pretty much every way.
It will not be an issue once it is on the wrist. I look forward to seeing pics of your new watch!

I think the maxi case and ceramic bezel look way different in real life than in pictures. In real life they really aren't that much different from the older ones.

I couldn't disagree more. I tried both at the AD and found they were like chalk and cheese!

+1 for that. The ceramic bezels look like plastic, and the cases are clunky. No offence intended, of course, and just one traditionalists opinion...

I prefer the old cases...much more elegant to my eyes. However, the new Explorer I does not have the blocky case. Larger than the old one but very well proportioned and sleek.
If you like your watches sleek, a Rolex with a maxi case is not the one to get IMO. |

Not a fan, personally! I like the ceramic bezel and new clasp though! I hope you like it though, seeing as it looks like you already bought it!

I still prefer the old style case. The Maxi looks great for the GMT...but not on the Sub...plus they need to go back to the green glow...blue is just wrong.

I'm one of those few who prefer the maxi-case over the old one. On a GMT and Sub IMHO it looks sporty and more masculine than the rounded case style. I don't think the maxi-case would be right for the DD, DJ or YM though...

You really need to try one on. Never had a problem with the maxi case until I tried one on in the flesh. Looks totally ridiculous IMHO.

Chalk and cheese? LOL! The new and old Subs overall aren't that much different. The changes are minor. I prefer the older style myself. WIS see more than the average buyer does.
Now the old Explorer II compared to the new one coming out to me is chalk and cheese.

You're only thinking of the professional line? I'd say that the current DJ, Perpetual, and Air-King models also have a maxi case, compared to the older versions. But I am assuming your talking about the really large maxi cased professionals.
I have still to own one. I have tried them on several times, and the 116610 is truly a massive and beautiful watch that comes with a perfect fit on my wrist with the new upgraded bracelet. The new Submariner brings a smile to my face everytime I try it on, but still... I have not gotten one ... since the older cases brings a bigger smile... The nicest Submariner I know is actually the Tudor 79090, with its flatter caseback. Best, A |
