Trying to decide on a WG Submariner
Hey guys!
I am very close (maybe this week) on deciding to make my purchase of a WG Sub a reality - deep breath. I have been looking for sometime, more seriously this last week. I have seen a few pre-worn ones ranging from $22k to $24k and several NIB ones from mid $25k and up. I feel like I want a new one and a V-serial. Many of the used ones are M. Is there any concern here or am I just being crazy? One of them has been serviced (e.g. opened and oiled). Any concern there? Some of these are from sources here in TRF. Just really looking for some other peoples thoughts and comments. Thanks in advance. |

For that kind of money, what's an extra thousand to get brand new?

If your in that price point for a watch and that is the watch you want then I would only consider buying new from an AD. Also get yourself a nice discount and by that I mean up to 30%. I got 20% on my ss watches but I think you could do better on a full gold version.

For the price, i definately wouldn't be touching the one that has been opended and oiled unless you can get it for a steal. I also sent you a pm!

It's a stunning watch. I still think it's worth contacting the top trusted sellers here and seeing what they can do BNIB or LNIB. There is no such thing in my book about not worrying about a thousand or more dollars!! Good luck and an exciting time.

I now do this almost everyday...

24-25k for BNIB or LNIB is crazy high... This should be a watch you can get a HUGE discount BRAND NEW from an ad, how do I know??? I bought one a few months ago. Find an AD that will negotiate and buy new. For this kind of $$$ I would NEVER consider something used/pre owned or that has been serviced... Just my opinion but you asked
Here is a pic for you :c heers:

It's actually a different mix and it does NOT need plating.... someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I found this on Nile.com
White Gold A silvery white character is what makes white gold jewelry so appealing. In order to make the gold white, it is combined with metal alloys that are white in nature and plated with an extremely hard element called rhodium. Although strong, rhodium may wear away over time. Replating is a simple process that can be done to restore whiteness to your jewelry. Seems like a bummer if you would have to replate a 25k watch. |

Amazing looking watch, I've always wondered though, how much of the watch is WG? Can someone here enlighten me? I know someone can, would someone please enlighten me? Thanks in advance.

Just to concur on Rolex white gold does not bleed. Rolex has their own foundary and mixes gold with Palladium which is around $800/ounce. Other watch manufactures do not have their capability so they have to buy their white gold and use a plating process. I would not buy a WG watch in any other brand then Rolex. I’m parroting from jewelers who have a lot more experience then I do.
I would have no concern on a M or V. However, I would have to get a good price for that. On the 116509 Daytona in WG I have more experience as I was a previous owner. I do know that both watches have close to the same MSRP of $33K and $31K (sub). I know the Daytona can be had for $20Kish for a mint M or V; therefore, I would surmise that the price you are discussing seems more like a price for an AD rather then off of the boards. Hope this doesn’t get me in trouble with my dealer buds.

1 troy ounce = 31.1034768 grams; and 1 ounces = 28.3495231 grams. So the watch weighs 200 grams (my WG Daytona did). Lets be conservative and give the movement and crystal (crystal most weight) say…. 3 ounces or 90 grams, that leaves 110 grams of gold, which is approximately 3.5 troy ounces or $5,300 in gold. I actually think this is conservative and it closer to $6.5K in gold, but it’s in the ballpark. If someone know the weight of a 3135 movement and a crystal, we could dial in the exact weight.

WG watches do get a decent discount from an ad, so look around! bought mine in a NYC ad earlier this year, it was a better price then i found on trf.
Definitely a stunning watch, the blue on this watch pops like no other, i put my 116613 and 116619 side by side and something about the 116619 really pops compared to the tt version. Good luck in your search! if all else fails, DavidSW can definitely get one for you |
