Daytona vs. Submariner Ceramic

I have narrowed it down to these 2 watches. Wish I could have both, but not possible at this time. Budget is 10K. I would like to wear in daily and also have to dress up (shirt and tie daily). What do you think? Thanks.

As a daily, get the sub, its far easier to maintain long term, while the Daytona can get knackered looking with continuous daily use unless you're particularly careful with it or lead a sedate lifestyle.

Get whichever one grabs you the most! They are so different and you can always get the other one later!

Agree, get whichever you prefer. Both great watches though there is a hefty price difference.....

if it comes down to those two and you can only have one i'd go sub. Daytona is a very nice piece but a little less versitile in my opinion without the date feature on it.

Sub is a classic through and through and a great base around which to build a collection.

ouch this is tricky!

I really want a daytona a lot! but I went for the Sub LV first. Sorry to make things confusing but have you considered the GMTIIc? Its got the PLC's like the daytona which makes it dressy, but also has the classic "Rolex look" of the sub...

Good luck!

DAYTONA vs SUB

Depends on the color I think.

I like my Champagne daytona for work and play but when I feel like being a little flashy I bring out the blue ceramic.

With that being said I wear a 77 1680 more than both of them.

get the daytona first before they start to fetch silly prices like the 16600 when it was being phased out...

Tough one but the Sub c speaks to me more. New Ceramic, latest and greatest piece from Rolex. Wouldn't have to worry about scratching the bezel either.....but to each his own. Good luck, they are both winners imho.

It would be the Daytona for me. I don't care for the Sub C at all.

I own both, and then some. If I own only one of them, or only one watch in fact, it would be the SubC black. Best all around sport watch/companion one can have IMO, even if it is hardly unusual.

My .02, I appreciated the classy & clean look of my white dial 116520, looks superb with a suit, but I love my Sub C which looks awesome with everything. You can't go wrong with either but the Sub is a much better daily IMHO for reasons already mentioned. The Daytona was a nice special occasion piece for me, one which I don't regret flipping. I would be in a state of deep depression if I had to part with my Sub C though, lol. YMMV.

+1 to PSV's comment as well, spot-on!

I went with a SS Daytona, white face first. I am now looking at a No Date Sub in the TRF market. In my opinion the Daytona is more versatile. I can wear it with jeans or with a suit and it looks great and never out of place in either setting. This is one of those decisions where you cannot go wrong either way. I do agree with Dino however the GMTc is also a watch you may want to take a good look at. Good luck.

Both are great watches no doubt.

As someone who renewed his interest in Rolex, I went for a Sub C first and then Daytona next.

The Sub C is now my daily beater. Daytona - I wore mostly on weekend. At times I wore the Daytona for two days straight but that's pretty much about it. I realized I need dates and I'm OCD on the PCL.

Good luck on your choice !

Movement wise, it`s Daytona all the way, one of the best automatic chrono`s out there. But you really should go for the one that you like more and the one that you`ll wear with bigger joy. There`s really no wrong choice, but I vote for Daytona.

Sub-C first, then the Daytona

The Sub-C looks great with both casual and formal clothing, although the white dial Daytona may look classier with a suit. If you spend most of your time in suit, then pick the Daytona. Otherwise, go for the Sub. Eventually, you'll have them both, especially if you spend a lot of time on this forum

Keep in mind, I love my Daytona SS in black.

I would say, for a first - get the Sub C or the GMTIIC.

Then get the SS Daytona.

I purchased my Daytona (white) first and then the Sub C . It is easier to find the Sub C, so if you can get your hands on a SS Daytona that you like buy that first. Every dealer has a Sub C but not every one has a Daytona .

Sub C. With daily use the bezel won't scratch like the Daytona's. Also it's cheaper to service.

Either one is great for everyday.

I prefer SubC. The new Subs are my favorite in the entire Rolex lineup.
