Rolex Submariner clock dail question

Hello guys,

This would be my first posts on this forum. I'm the new owner of a black Rolex Submariner watch. The watch is perfect, elegant and stylish. Since i'm new on using automatic watches i dont know if this is a common problem.

When i'm at home i turn my watch off and store it in the Rolex box. Most of the time it stay's there 15-16 hours before using it again. But mostly the next day when i want to use it, it seems to be that the clock dial (always) stops. I have to afresh my watch by shaking it, for letting it work again.

It's frustrating, especially when it happends. Because i have to set it up again on time.

Is this normal for an automatic watch, or should i bring it back to the store again?

What do you mean by "turn it off?" Turn off what? Turn off how? If you set the time, wind it 40 times or so, and wear it 8 or more hours a day, it should still be running 16 hours after you take it off and store it in the box.

I mean for putting the watch of my wrist, to store it.

Try giving it a full manual wind by turning the crown at least 40 times in the winding position. See if that helps prolong the power reserve.

Ok. But is it normal that the clock dial stops, if your watch rest in the same position for 16-24 hours (boxed)?

Then why do i read on the internet that automatics mechanics works on light weights and that it has to move to keep the spring winding system working, or it will stand still after a while (mostly 2 days). If you dont have it on your wrist.

''Wear the watch often to keep it wound. The Rolex perpetual mechanism is specially designed to wind the watch using the motion of your arm, so it is important to wear the watch often in order to keep it operating. You should be fine if you do not wind your watch overnight, as the timepiece should build up more than enough energy for overnight operation throughout the day.

That's how it work. But 16-24 hours is not 2 days.

Wind it, wear it, and it should keep running up to 2 days after you take it off. You said it's stopped after 16 hours, and that is not normal.

I was guessing that has to be 2 days, this is simply an opinion, not a fact. Or can you proof me it is?

Found it out, i didn't fully wind it. Just one time (clock wise) and that kept the watch on for 16 hours.

That is correct but thats assuming your watch was fully wound up first to start with, around 40 full crown turns clockwise. If you say only gave your watch a small wind from stopped, by just wearing a few hours would not top its power reserve up to full. Now on a full manual wind watch should run around 39-48 hours off wrist.

I think you need to read the manual to understand how to wind the watch. When the crown is in the winding position the hands aren't turning as you wind it.

I think you should need to learn the definition of the word 'clockwise' when winding a watch. I'm not speaking about moving your hands. You probably mean the spring system which works while using a watch because of the movement of your arms.

''Turn the crown 30 or 40 complete turns in a clockwise direction. Don't worry about over-winding. Rolex watches have a built-in mechanism that prevents over-winding.

My bad! Thanks for keeping me straight. Enjoy your watch!

Your watch will only continue to run for about 40 to 50 hours after it is fully wound and not worn.....

Your watch is normal..

I simply do not understand what you are trying to do.. A Rolex is a mechanical movement and must be wound daily to function; either by hand winding it or by wearing it..
