In response to a WTB post I was contacted by a fellow identifying himself as "Michael Boban" from England, email address mikeboban@blumail.org
He offered up the watch I was looking for but there were a few flags, no history anywhere on any forum I could find with that name, price was too low and the pictures he sent were taken over a year ago.
He had a long winded story about why he needed to sell the watch and it just didn't pass the smell test.

After requesting new pics taken with his user id on a piece of paper by the watch and asking for references....silence.

As I said plenty of flags but I though I should post this for others in case he tries again with the same name.

Here is yet another prime example of the scammers who skim this site to pray on the ill informed!
Don't think for one moment that because you're on TRF, you're safe!

A suggestion here, and one perhaps I need to make as a sticky in the WTB/FS section.
Refrain from giving your personal details in the listing (IE: Personal phone # and email address), unless you know the risk and how to avoid the tricks these dirtbags use!!
This way, the only way they can contact you is by being an actual member of this site....This alone is still not enough insurance however!
Then, gather info and or references through the membership of these boards. If no info can be confirmed or traced, forget about it and move on!
You have to remember, outsiders (guests) can still view these listings and respond via the details listed...
Stay within the boards, and double/triple check always! It's not worth a quick buck or "great deal" when you loose out to a scam.

Bottom line, never let your guard down!

To the OP, good to hear you had your guard up and weren't taken by the lowlifes that continue to troll the world of watches!

And in this case I did put an email in the WTB post knowing full well the potential. However, I probably won't do that again any time soon.
I have been lucky so far, must help being a naturally suspicious person.

I have found that if you research and decide on a seller within this forum and then send them a PM on what you are looking for that avoids potential scams. Just another possible solution from a newbie!
