Bezel scratches
If the numbers on the bezel of a ceramic submariner get scratched, is it possible to fix the scratch or must the whole bezel be changed?

But scratches do occur as documented in posts here and on other forums. Some scratches on the ceramic itself can be polished out but scratches on the gold/platinum markers cannot, requiring replacement which is expensive. The recessed markers/numbers with applied gold/platinum are susceptible to chipping and scratching. This is the principal flaw in the Rolex ceramic bezel design. Fr. John† |

After seeing the bakelite GMT bezels of old I came up with the idea of a sapphire crystal bezel insert, with a painted underside. It could even have luminova numerals. Although still possible to scratch, this would eliminate the problem with the platinum/gold numerals chipping out and we could have our pepsi back! I just hope the people at Rolex read this and offer to pay me for my idea...

The actual markers I just relized will scratch even if you touch them. They are filled with gold or platinum. Best advice is not to touch them. I just learned the hard way.

I broke the white bead on my Deepsea's bezel and the RSC said the whole bezel has to be changed. Not sure if the same applies to scratches on the numerals but I would guess that it does.

Someone here (names escapes me) scratched the ceramic bezel insert on their Sub, and successfully polished it out themselves
