Pam 88 little disappointed
Well I'm rather new to this forum, just thought I'd share my recent experience.
About a year ago I bought a brand spanking new DSSD which I drooled over for two years prior. I have been completely blown away by. Since then the panerais caught my eye. So just last weekend I got myself a used Pam 88, it was a little bit of an impulse buy. I knew I did want a luminor though. The last few days I have to admit I like the watch but I'm not sure I love or if I'm blown away as much as I was with the DSSD. Any ideas why ? Will I grow to love it just as much ? Just curious what you guys think. |

What exactly don't you like?? Size, look, etc?? The first PAM I bought 312, was too heavy and I sold it a week later. A month later bought a 351, and I cannot take the thing off.

Mmm I have had my eye on the 359, I have a wedding to pay for soon so thought I'd try and save a little and go for the second hand 88, I think maybe it's the quality of the watch, like the rotar is very noisy and can feel it. I know that's normal for the 7750 movement.

I have an 88 and I luv it. But then again it was the first Panerai I saw that I really liked. However for you and your disapointment it maybe a combination of reasons. One of which you just said was you thought you would get it because it was a second hand watch which you could save money on. Maybe its because you settled for something where you could save money but you did not necessarily really want that particular model or is it because it is pre-owned and not new.

Doesn't bother me. But then again I have the same movement on my Breitling Navitimer World, and IWC Pilot Chronograph.

Perhaps because the 88 doesn't hold all the typical PAM DNA you'd expect in one, namely the simple dial. It's a nice watch though.

I had an 88 for a few months.
Cool watch but just didn't do it for me either. On the other hand, I have a 351 which I simply love! The 359 is also along those lines. As a previous reply suggested, try one on at an AD. |

I guess thats exactly why I like it. It has a lot of things going on and to me it looks great. I admit I also have a Pam 000. So I have one that is pretty simple and another with a number of things going on per say.

Love my 88 although it hasn't had a lot of wrist time in the past year. Am thinking to sell it to get a Pam 244.

rolex design is quite plain. |

Had an 88 myself for about a week, the deployment clasp broke a few days into ownership.... This was unfortunately my last Pam but ever since I have been wanting another again, they are all beautiful and so different than Rolex

well, you said it was an impulse buy....sometimes impulse buys work out, sometimes they don't. i bet if you had been drooling over the 88 for two years like you had over the DSSD, you wouldn't be disappointed now.
so, sell it, take your time, and find a PAM that really speaks to you. |
