5513 Questions

Hi folks, just acquired this little number and need some answers to a couple of questions about it..
Should the bezel be unidirectional and click or were these simple subs non click and bidirectional? The case serial number is a 583XXXX does this date this Sub to 1978 ? (this is what my iphone "date your rolex" ap is stating), and can anyone tell me anything about the Submariner above the ft and metres dial print...Is it rare-ish?

Congrats, cool watch! The bezel does not click on 5513's of this age, and it can be turned either way. The serial, 5.8 mil, would date the watch to around 1978. The submariner above the depth rating is typical for a 78 ish 5513. Also, the hands may be luminova replacements.

BTW: this might be considered a mark IV Maxi (large luminous plots), as the serial would be in the correct time frame for a maxi sub.

The watch would be considered a MK III Maxi dial. This is how I differentiate a MK III from a MK IV. The MK III has open 6's, the middle part of the S in Submariner is horizontal, there is serif on the F in feet, and m is further out to the left than the R in Submariner. On the MK IV dial the middle part of the S in Submariner is diagonal, there is no serif on the F in feet, and the m is directly under the R in Submariner. Congrats the plots on the MK III are supposed to be the largest.
