ROlex Boutique in Chicago - Only One?

Just got back from 2 weeks business travel in Chicago. Interesting place indeed. I learned the native language (Chicago-ese) and also learned not to pay attention so much to the walk signals but rather the brazen drivers that will mow you down to make that right or left even if you have the walk signal.

After indulging in some of the local pizza which I had to work off over 2 days I was strolling on Michigan Ave and noticed the Rolex awning and went up to take a closer look. Turns out it was indeed a Rolex boutique. Very nice I might add. The salesman told me it is the only one in the US. Is this true or have others opened recently? Also I take it don't even think of asking for a discount there of all places. I was looking at the DDv and his strongest selling point was to the effect of if you buy it here you know it's real.

Im pretty sure the Rolex Boutique in Chicago is Rolex By Tourneau. There are lots of these they are Rolex boutiques but run by another company. I think this is Rolex's first step to phasing them so they can have there own stores and make all the money :)

You are correct Mr. Robert, they are ran by Tourneau.

As stated by others, there are other Rolex Boutiques in the US. Not sure but there is one in NY, and I believe one in Florida.

Yes, as others have said, it is a Tourneau store. And I have never met a group of nicer, completely ignorant salespeople. Really. They are nicer than any customer should expect and completely uninformed about their product.

One more thing about the store: It is a glaring example of the limits of the Rolex line. After a time, it seems like if you've seen one you've seen them all. Just my impression....

i prefer James and Sons on Clyborn. Really great staff and you don't have to deal with the gawkers.

I doubt Rolex corporation will ever own its own stores. Having existing retail merchants, such as Tourneau or Mayors, open and manage Rolex Boutiques is likely the future for retailing the brand.

Govberg also had a Rolex boutique store in Philadelphia, in addition to their other store which sells additional high end lines including Patek Phillipe, JLC, Lange, etc. However, the Govberg boutique store didn't last too long and they eventually moved the entire line into their main store. It seemed like the boutique store was more of a novelty for shoppers and gawkers, almost like a Rolex museum.

I went into the Rolex boutique on Michigan Ave two weeks ago. A screw on my bracelet (subc) kept coming loose so I decided to stop in. They were extremely polite and fixed my watch for me free of charge. They tried to sell me a watch but I am not in the market for one any time soon.

As was said above, while they were very nice and helpful, they don't know much about the actual watches. To be honest, I have never met a low-level Rolex salesperson who knew much about the watches. Oh well.
