Question About Tudor Submariner

Hey, my name is Kevin and I'm a 19 year old looking for a watch I can wear on an everyday basis and isn't too flashy. One of the watches I was thinking about was the Tudor Submariner from the 70's or 80's but would I be able to acquire one with a budget of about $1,000USD? If not, I was also thinking about a 80's Tudor Prince Oysterdate although that seems to be on the flashier side. I'm not opposed to purchasing an Omega Seamaster, obviously it would be an older one but I would prefer to get a Rolex Tudor. If you guys have any suggestions or tips, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Kevin,

Welcome to TRF! At $1000USD you need to be very, very lucky to find a Tudor Submariner, even the later models (Hydronaut). You need to (at least) double that figure to get a decent ref 79190 or 79090 (that looks like a Rolex Submariner). Also make sure that you have a budget for a service.

Spend some time using the search function here, and I would say that you will get an idea on what is possible and needed.

The Omega Seamaster is a very nice watch. That was my choice when I was in your age. I did consider Rolex and Tudor then, but the Omega was less expensive and suited my needs and whishes well. (But my model is considered vintage now, I guess...)

Good luck!

Best,

A

keep in mind that most tudor subs <2k USD will most likely require a bit of work, so budget for that.

Agree w/ the above. Keep your eye on your dream watch but learn as much as you can first while saving what you can.
Best of luck,

I was told servicing once every 4-5 year would cost approximately $500?

Is the general consensus on TRF a yay or nay on purchasing off of eBay? I would obviously want to get it authenticated to ensure it is not a replica. There seem to be a some in/a little above my price range. I wouldn't be looking for something that's in perfect condition because with the used market, I can't be that picky and it would eventually get nicked here and there at some point.

And I'm having a hard time finding information about Tudor; it seems like there is a subforums for Omega, Panerai and Breitling but not Tudor. Could someone kindly point me into the correct direction?

The only thing I don't really love about the Seamaster is the bracelet; It looks like it is curved downwards. I'm not sure if the name is the same but ideally, I would want one that has the Rolex Oyster bracelet (3 links across?) but the Rolex Jubilee bracelet is also alright even though it seems to be a little less casual.

That is a gorgeous watch! But what kind of work? And a ballpark estimate for the cost?

Absolutely! I'm just hoping I can find one before Christmas because I don't want to rush my search and miss out on anything I should be aware of before purchasing.

you may be able to find a hydronaught for about 1200. maybe

subs begin at 1500 broken and in need of repair.

the best deal out there for a rolex is a 1601 datejust. you could possibly get one for a grand.

The cheapest Rolex Datejusts I can find are $2k+. Are there any recommended sites other than the classified section of TRF and eBay?
