What age did you buy your 1st Patek?
Hello everyone here at TRF! Within the last month I finally pulled the trigger and purchased my first Patek Philippe. It is a beautiful yellow gold Calatrava on a brown crock strap. I absolutely LOVE it and will be posting a few pics on line here soon. This piece has always been my grail and I was very pleased to be able to have purchased it at the age of 42. Which brings me to my question to all of you PP owners........how old were you when you acquired your first Patek?
I know a first Rolex tends to be purchased at a younger age due to relative affordability compared to PP. But I expect to find that Patek to be purchased later in ones life either due to the significant financial commitment that PP requires, or simply due to the style. But perhaps I am mistaken. In anycase, please take a minute to reply to this message and let me know how old you were when you got your first Patek. Thanks! |

Hello. I don't have a Patek yet but I would like to chime in. I'm 22 years old. I would like to have a Patek one day and probably will. Right now I have 3 rolexes, a Breitling, and an omega. I could trade those all in for one decent used Patek but I'd rather have a versatile collection.
I could also go hunting for any Patek and find a poor condition one for pretty cheap just to say that I have one. The problem is, that would defeat the purpose. I want to get the one that I want, probably a nautilus or annual calender. Seeing as how I want to keep adding to my current collection, I'm guessing it will be another 10-15 years before I consider getting a Patek. And that's fine, it's something special to look forward to. I realize that was a collection of random thoughts, but the thread just caused me to do some thinking so I figured I would share with you. |

Any age will do, it is all about the financial affordability of you. I remember that someone in the TRF here buying his son a PP at the age of 12. But perhaps, the style and the image of the brand fits mature MAN better. Like me, I opted for an AP for now rather than PP at the moment. I am still a relatively young teen though. Cheers.

A very timely thread.
I was at a Rolex AD in Spain a couple of weeks ago, and the salesperson pulled out a PP rose gold annual calendar for me to check out. He knew it was way out of my price range but he was so accomodating, and such a pleasure to deal with, he insisted I at least see it. I told him that one day I will own one, and he jokingly suggested that I was too young for one now (I am 40 and certainly do not look young for my age). I assumed that he typically deals with older people with Patek. Maybe because of the price. Maybe also because the younger crowd seems to prefer sportier watches. It was a thing of beauty, and I would love to own one now, but financially not in the cards at this time. |

I am 38, I am in LOVE with the Patek 5960 and have
been debating selling most of my collection other than a few pieces and getting the 5960 to wear for dress etc... Problem is I really don't dress up enough and while Id wear a Plat Rolex DD daily I don't think Id wear a Patek 5960 daily. Either way any age is a good age to buy a Patek....

I was 27 when I bought the one and only Patek that I've owned so far.
It was a beautiful Aquanaut and I regret selling it!!

I'm 44, many Patek's are just too dressy for me. I never wear anything nicer than a polo even to work. The Patek Aquanaut is gorgeous and it's one I would love to own.

39 even though I could have got one sooner however I think one's tastes have to match the styling. I honestly don't think I was interested any sooner.

Not in this lifetime, I'm afraid. But then, I've never coveted Pateks.

One of my goals is to own a 5146 before I turn 30, I believe it is the perfect watch for a suit. Although I have already amassed quiet the collection at 23 which I could sell and only need a little bit more for a used 5146.

Was given a '63 vintage PP after the death of a relative when I was 27, 25 years ago.

I bought a Patek Calatrava last year, aged 34.
It was an incredibly big outlay for me but being a WIS I wanted the ultimate example of the watchmakers craft (whether the patek is, is debatable). Also I found that my rolex received a lot of attention from colleagues in meetings and so I often felt uncomfortable. A lot guys in my industry are crazy watch fanatics so it was nice to have something appreciated by WIS but under the radar for most.

Thanks man, I traded out a 11' Tundra Rock Warrior for the LX, I was never a huge Lexus fan, until i bought one for my mom last Christmas. Bought her the Rx 350, when I was at the dealer they took me on a test drive in the new IsF. Man i was sold! I ordered one of those last march and have loved it so much I decided to go all the way Lexus. LX is being delivered this week ...since im single its a lot easier to justify buying a LX in Sept and a PP 5726a or 5205 G for Christmas. Hopefully someday Ill have a wife and then no more PP for me
