Sub running fast!

As an new Rolex owner and new member to TRF, I just wanted to say what a great forum! I recently purchased an F series Sub from MVPWatch (Darian). The watch looks like new and the local AD confirmed its authenticity. However, this watch runs fast about 30 seconds per day compared to the atomic clock! Now, from what I've read on your forum, this seems to be a little excessive. Prior to purchase, Darian at MVP informed me that this watch came with a one year warranty. My questions to any of you: is this really a problem with an automatic watch, can it be adjusted by a local AD without excessive cost, and/or should this adjustment be handled under warranty by MVP??

Again, as a Noob to automatics, any thoughts would be appreciated.

I would bring it to a local AD, from what I hear they can fix something like that in 10 minutes TOPS. It might have to be demagnitized.

30 seconds a day is quite fast indeed. I would first try something however. Give the watch 40 winds, set it to the atomic clock and see how it does over the course of one week.

If it is still running outside of COSC standards -4/+6 average seconds daily rate take it back and have them take a look at it and regulate it for you, as this should be covered under your warranty.

Calibrating should be free under the warranty, if it's still under the warranty. Otherwise, it shouldn't be expensive if you know a private or AD watchmaker.

Despite what the -4/+6 purists say, I find it a bit OCD to demand such accuracy from a mechanical watch. Most Rolex owners I personally know have watches that run fast or slow and have to be adjusted once a month or so -- primarily because most owners I know can't be bothered to get their watch serviced on schedule.

It sounds like it needs regulation, as magnetized watches typically run VERY fast.....like 1-2+ minutes a day (or more).

So this warranty is with MVP not an AD? I would take it to an AD and see if they will regulate it for free and that is if they have an onsite watchmaker. If not, take it back to MVP. This is another reason why you always ask the accuracy of the watch prior to buying. Good luck.

You say your watch runs about 30 seconds a day, afraid you cannot check any watch with about you must do a proper check. Now first fully manual wind it 40 full crown turns clockwise, then set watch with a reliable time sourse. For this test any quartz watch/clock will do, now synchronise both watches. Then wear as normal for at least 8 hours a day, check time daily with the same setting watch/clock over five days. Then average out the loss or gain over those five days,it your watch is outside the COSC spec. The Spec is a AVERAGE of between -4 to +6 seconds over any 24 hour period, then your watch needs regulating. Its quite a simple task for any good watchmaker takes around 30 minutes tops. But if you sent it to the RSC expect it will take 4 weeks plus to return your watch.

Thanks for all the great responses. I gave the watch 40 winds and set it to the atomic clock. This is my daily wearer so I'll check the time against the atomic clock on Monday. If it's really fast I'll try to find a local AD to see if that can check it out. I'm here in NW and the watch was purchased from MVPWATCH in Florida. Probably not worth sending it back to them to have it adjusted under their warranty.
