Big Debate

OK Guys. Wondering what you think about this decision I am about to take...

I am about to purchase a Breitling at a really low price. Its a Breitling superocean heritage 38mm on a rubber strap. (Got a question about that strap too) I will be purchasing this watch as a daily wearer until the day I get my Rolex - the wife already promised she'll get me a rolex in about 3 years as a masters degree grad gift.

I feel a little bit like I am purchasing this Breitling because I am filling the void until I get the rolex. And I already viewed the previous posts/thread about someone buying the rolex so please dont send me to that thread.

But now that I know that I can get a great watch (breitling) at a great price and I know my wife is going to get me a rolex in a couple years. Do you think buying the breitling is a good idea?

Background - I cant wear my usual daily wearer tag f1 red dial because I am in the military and a red dial is a big NO NO.

Also if I am buying the rubber strap and it is sized for someone a lot smaller will I need to purchase a new strap?

Thanks guys,
Francisco

If it isn't the one you trully want, then yes I think you are possibly making a mistake.

Have you tried on the watch? Re the strap, if it's too small for you just buy another one that will fit. There are dozens of strap styles out there you can purchase from $20 to $200+. I didn't know the military can now officially ban watches with red dials, but if it looks gawd-awful when worn with a uniform I guess the local commander can dictate what watch one can or cannot wear. As far as owning a Breitling to fill a void - that's a decision best left for you to make. Good luck pare!

I'd just save the money for the Rolex.

If the Breitling strap has the deployant clasp, you can just buy new uncut rubber parts of the strap for like $100.

Agree with what most have said. Buy a Breitling because you like it, they make some very nice watches (as jnelson can attest to! good to see you on TRF man :)!

Breitlings don't hold their value as well so what you put into it, may not be very liquid when you have the funds to 'upgrade' to the Rolex. If I were you I'd not wear a watch or get an absolute beater to tide you over until you get the piece you really want!

Told my wife that I wont be getting the Breitling...my wife and bank account sounded relieved. haha. poor wife, has to put up with my obsessions.

thanks guys.

to DCGator...the military is strict with EVERYTHING. As far as the uniform goes...our socks have to match our shoe color, our hair must not be longer than one and a half inch in bulk, and our watches must look "simple" and not eye catching. That f1 chrono red dial is extremely eye catching and if a commander see's this, they may let it go once but if they catch it again I can get it written up. It can affect my future promotions. They also just passed a rule that we cant talk on the phone while walking in uniform, cant even wear a bluetooth. We must stop go to the side and talk while standing still. So goes to tell you the strict rules we must abide by being in the military.

Some of this is for tactical purposes, and some for reasons of hygene, discipline, and order.

Huah, and thanks for your service.
